dropcam is awesome! I love it because I can log on at work and see the babies napping while the nanny is taking care of them, or I can check in on them if we are out and a babysitter is home with the kids. The dropcam streams over the internet to your computer, ipad, or iphone.

We bought a Summer Infant one with both Wi-fi access and a handheld screen. I know Motorola makes a similar one too.

We went all out and got the Angelcare AC1100. It's a movement, sound, and video monitor and we loooove it. One of our best baby purchases. With a newborn, the movement monitor gave me so much peace of mind. Now that DD is older we don't use the sound function much, but the video is great! It has night vision and also monitors room temperature. We haven't used it much yet but it also has the talk-back feature. I like that it isn't connected to the internet, so no hacking. My only complaint is that there is no option to add a second unit since we are about to have our second baby. You must purchase a whole new system.

@mrs.shinerbock: We have the same one. 2.5 years and still going. We have been really happy with it, and will be getting a 2nd camera for Baby #2! It's SO much cheaper than the other video monitors out there!

We have the Motorola MBP36 with an extra camera for LO2! (We bought a spare for LO1 for traveling!) Which is great because they discontinued it recently!

We had a couple issues with the battery with the first TWO monitors, but buybuybaby was great about exchanges!

We have the DXR-5 from Infant Optics. We've been really happy with it. It has a VOX mode where it shuts itself off if there is no noise or movement from the baby and turns on again when the baby cries or moves. You can add up to 3 additional cameras if you want to add another room.

Any suggestions on a video baby monitor? Before I got pregnant I used to think they were so silly, but now we have had a few people who have them or want them tell us how valuable they are so we are seriously considering one. I would prefer one that has its own parent unit (and screen) instead of using your phone / iPad, etc. to connect. Or, I would like one where you have the option to use your parent unit and /or your mobile device.
