I bought one for DH for Christmas, knowing that we'd want to have one around to record our LOs in the future.

We will be getting one. It is important for me to capture lots of little moments to share with my family and I just don't want to rely on a smartphone for that. I think it is a it is just a matter of preference.

I think video cameras are good for taking longer videos, like for footage during birthday parties or baptisms... We used our camcorder a lot for our first DD, but not so much for our second... Now I tend to use my iPhone for everyday snippets of my LOs.

I also tend to take video more from my Canon point & shoot, so my iphone's hard drive isn't too full (I take a ton of photos and videos!).

I wondered the same thing!! I didn't know if we should get a new regular camera or stick with our iPhones.

I record everything on my Iphone4s (in HD) and upload to youtube. I wouldn't suggest a camcorder.. it's just an extra device you don't really need.

DH bought me a video camera a few weeks ago for our Wedding anniversary..I'm so glad! I don't think a smartphone can replace the videos. Some of my fondest memories are of watching home movies of my childhood years!

We use both, and I'm glad we have the video camera. It's better quality, and I know it'll make me happy to watch in the future. If my LO is doing something and I don't have time to run and grab the camera, I'll just use the phone, but usually I prefer to use the camera.

I'm packing up my hospital bag and see camera/camcorder as a suggested item to bring along. And it made me think. Is investing in a camcorder to record special events in our lives with our LO still suggested? Do you all find yourself using a camcorder? or just reaching for your smart phone instead?

It seems like it would just be one more thing to buy, to figure out how to use (a big one for me!), and to remember to pack whenever I leave the house.

But having no experience with milestone events as a mom yet, I certainly don't want to discount the pros of having a camcorder do the recording. I imagine it might be better quality or have more options than my iphone?

How do you record your LO's special moments? Do you think getting a camcorder is still a good idea?
