I posted the same question a few weeks ago and based on recommendations on here, Amazon reviews and online ratings, I went with the Infant Optics DXR-8. I got a great deal with the 15% amazon registry completion discount and a $20 off special they had a few days ago (might still be going on). I paid $119.

@mrsads sorry for the delay! We moved just before the holidays so the unpacking is still ongoing, or we may be heading to dumpster territory. If we haven’t unpacked in over a month do we need it?

Anyhow, I got the second monitor out. They work fine side by side, we have a Motorola and an Infant Optics. The rooms are side by side so the camera units are back to back on the walls. I will say the parental monitor units cannot be touching, if they do the sound cuts out on the IO unit. But I had them both on my nightstand a few inches apart with no trouble with either the audio or video feed.

After seeing the suggestion of adding another audio monitor rather than a second video, that is appealing if you like your original monitor. We really hate our first one. Hope that helps!

We use the Motorola units. We just got a second camera for DS2. You can set it up to just scan between the two rooms - it jumps back and forth like every 20 seconds or whatever. Or you just hit the OK button and manually switch between cameras.

If you turn the sound on, you get sound for both rooms - you can't just listen for one and not the other.

I typically keep the screen black at night except for the very early newborn stage and I don't leave the sound on at all. I can hear my children just fine when they cry from their rooms.

Our video monitor is black unless someone makes a noise. Then it clicks on. And it's constantly flipping between the two rooms.

Sorry, I didnt read all responses, but here is what we did with our motorola.

-Got a second monitor
-Got a cheap sound only monitor (like $30 vTech)

During nap time we left the monitor on DD2, but toggled back n forth as needed.

At night, we set the monitor to scan while we were awake, it would switch back n forth between DD1 and DD2 like every 2 mins or something. When we went to bed for the night we'd set the video monitor to DD2, and turn the sound only monitor on DD1.

I should note that when I moved DD2 out of my room at 12 weeks, DD1 was 2 years 9 months when we moved her to sound only...

I have the nest monitor and think it is amazing!! Can't imagine it would interfere with a regular baby monitor at all. In fact, I have stayed in a house with people who were using regular baby monitors and there was no interference. Best of luck with whatever you choose!

@MrsADS: I rely on the monitor heavily too. DD is 4 but I still use it for her and have no plans to stop...

@dahlia I rely on the video pretty heavily with my 2yo... it gives me a lot of peace of mind to see if he's waking up/awake or just settling down, or now that he's in a toddler bed to see what kind of shenanigans he is up to in his room. Lol.

@ajsmommy that's an interesting idea, I do already have a Vtech audio monitor I could use in the same way. That might be a good compromise - 2nd camera but use the audio monitor for audio for the toddler at night, and flip to the video for his room if he's making noise.

@macsunshine thanks!!! Let me know how it goes.

There is a smalls square of the 2nd camera (you can choose which one to be the smaller square). Note that that square will have no sound. But it has worked totally fine for us b/c we bed share so we are only watching them up till we go to bed. DD1 doesn't really stir so we keep her on the small square just in case. DD2 is on the main screen with sound.

@mrsads I'll report back, I may not get to set up the second monitor until this weekend but I probably should check it myself! It would be so silly if we had issues when the new baby arrived, thanks for raising the question.

I had this same dilemma! We bought a summer monitor that had two camera's and set up a camera in LO1 room and LO2 room. I use the split screen at all times so I can see both and I use the sound on the summer monitor for LO1. For sound for LO2 I use our old angel care monitor that is not video but it is the motion detecting one so it gives me peace of mind that it's detecting LO2 breathing (we used it for lo1 until she was like 2). Anyway, it works for us.. I do have two monitors on my end.

If I hear LO2 I just check the video to see what he's up to. It works for me.

Do you need a monitor for your oldest? DD broke hers when she was one and we never replaced it. But our house is pretty small, so we can hear her no matter what.

@macsunshine can you try it out and let me know?? Like turn both of them on and make sure they all work okay. That's my main concern. With the toddler, I only use the monitor at naptime and bedtime, so those would be the only times I would have 2 monitors to carry around - and realistically, for the 2yo I normally just park it somewhere I can keep an eye on so I'm not carting it around. I would mostly just have the monitor for the baby.

We have a motorola like you and I have elected to get a second camera/monitor for the new baby. I don't love the motorola we have, so adding a second camera for something I just don't like didn't make sense.

I also didn't want to deal with the scanning between the two cameras. We also don't use the monitor that much during the day with our toddler so for me, having two monitors is not annoying. I suspect we will slowly stop using the motorola over time.

The baby has not arrived yet so I have not yet tried if we will have interference when using both monitors. I'll try that in the next few days, as I had not considered that! Now I'm curious!

We have an older model Motorola with two cameras but I know the functionality is the same with my BIL's Baby Optix monitor. Essentially, you can select on the parent unit to focus on either camera solely or you can select the scan setting which jumps from one camera for some short interval (maybe 15 seconds) and then to the other and then back again. I personally think I would be annoyed having to carry two separate parent units around the house but maybe it wouldn't be that big of a deal if the kids had different naptimes, etc.

So, I feel like there have been some threads about this lately (and I searched and read old ones) but I'm still not quite sure what to do.

We have a Motorola video monitor with LO #1, who is 2.5. Baby #2 is arriving in May. They will have separate rooms (right next to each other). I want to keep using the monitor with LO #1 but also will need a video monitor for baby #2 (once he moves into his room - will be with us at first).

I know you can get a 2nd camera for the Motorola, but what I'm not clear on is how it works on the parent unit. Is it like a split screen? Or do you have to choose to go back and forth between views? How does the audio work? I am thinking about at night when we are asleep - normally I wake up if I hear the sound from the monitor, but if we have to "choose" to have sound from only one child at a time, it sort of defeats the purpose to me.

I have also thought about just buying a second separate video monitor for baby #2 and just having the parent units side by side so I can see and hear them both all the time (I think this is really my preference). But if I do this, will there be an issue with interference or the cameras "knowing" which parent monitor to link to because there are two parent monitors? (The rooms are very close together).

I can't find a lot of answers online or looking at Amazon reviews. I would love your first-hand knowledge. Thanks!
