@JennyPenny: it doesn't have the power save, but the only time I've had issues with the battery is when it inadvertently gets left on all day. I leave it on the charger by my bed all night tho. I think the power save would be a nice feature, but I would pay too much extra $$$ for it (same with 2 way talk!)

@LBee: Yep, he is and I so wish we had a video monitor already. For the most part he hasn't yet figured out he can get out of bed without us, but I suspect that won't last for long. We'll need to get something regardless for when we have 2...

I thought J was already in a big boy bed?

We use the Motorola video monitor. Just a warning - the two way talking freaks the hell out of T.

@peaches1038: Nice! The power save/sound limit thing is something I definitely want, but haven't seen many video monitors listing that feature. Maybe they have it but don't mention it?

@bees_knees: I saw the new Summer Infant one does have the 2 way talk, but I didn't see if it has the power save feature when there isn't noise past a threshold. Does your current one have that?

I'm just using a motorola one that my SIL is giving me. Or I would've put our current Levana in there too. Both tilt and zoom and pan and what not.

We have a Summer video monitor. (A model that's discontinued, or I'd share a link!) It pans/zooms and obvi has the sound and night vision. I like that you can add up to 4 cameras...but I wish it had the 2 way talk now that DS1 is older and can get in/out of his big boy bed.

We got the vtech safe and sound monitor. It has everything we wanted: pan/tilt/zoom, 2 way talk, sound activated screen that turns off when it's quiet (you can set different sound threshold levels), night vision and the ability to add extra cameras if you wanted one in your newborns room too. I really like the quality, especially because it's on the low end of prices (150 on Amazon) the one thing I don't like is the cord to plug it in has to be inserted in a certain direction and it's annoying in the MOTN.

My son will be moving to a big boy room shortly in preparation for the arrival of his little brother/sister. We plan on using the sound-only monitor that we already have for the new baby, but I'd like to have a monitor for him as well. I'm inclined to a video monitor since he'll be in a bed and have full freedom to move around in his room. Also I want to be able to hear if he's crying out, of course.

Anybody have any specific model suggestions or other tips? I'd like something that spans the whole room which seems different than when you have a baby in a crib and just need to focus one spot. We'd probably just get a wifi camera except I want the sound alert too. Or maybe you have a better suggestion?

ETA - DS will be almost 2.5 when moving to his toddler room.
