We've been looking at the Optix one too. We like the idea of having 4 cameras. One in each kids room and one in the playroom. Not sure where we'd put the 4th one. But I think as the kids grow it will be nice to be downstairs cooking, etc. and be able to see them in any room they are in upstairs.
We have the AngelCare with the mat that detects their breathing. I think I will use it for the newborn and use the Optix in my toddlers room and playroom for now. Then change out the newborn's camera system when he is older. I like the peace of mind of having the mat. And since we already have it why not still use it.

We have a Motorola (similar to this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PRECX8G?psc=1 ). We've had it for over two years now and like it. The battery life doesn't last very long, but we mostly keep it plugged in anyway. I like that you can add/remove cameras to it, so now we have two cameras: one for each kid. And I find the temperature sensor VERY helpful. Both boys are upstairs and the temp in their room is usually a good 5 degrees warmer than downstairs, so it's helpful to know how hot it is in their rooms so I know to crank the A/C (or how cold and crank the heat).

@raspberries: I suspect it's a combination of the type and location of the monitor and the type and location of the wifi router. I've heard some other people mention that their monitors do the same and they have different monitors.

@LBee: Good to know about that the temp thing is useful - our LO will have a window air conditioner in his room, but not a thermostat to control it, so it sounds like that would be a pretty nice feature to have.

@mrs.shinerbock: Ohhh good to know about the wifi - I doubt it would be a huge deal, but I hadn't considered that.

@littlebug: Thanks for the feedback - I agree, it doesn't look as high tech as others on the market, but as long as it lasts...

We have the DX5, like @mrs.shinerbock: . We've been really happy with it. It feels a little chintzy, but it's held up for 2.5 years and still going. We plan to add another camera for Baby #2.

No specific recommendations on those two, but we were really glad to have the room temperature sensor. We knew our upstairs ran hot, but not the level that the temperature indicated it did (August baby). I was probably just a crazy FTM, but anything above 74 degrees made me super nervous (SIDS risk) and I would go in there and turn up his fan and crank up the AC. I liked being able to know that - especially since I seemed to not be able to tell as well when our house was 78 degrees upstairs.

We have the Infant Optics DX5. We've been very happy with it and really like the VOX mode where it turns off if there is no sound or movement. We also like that we can add additional cameras. The only thing we don't like about it is that it interferes with our wifi, so we can't stream video if the monitor is nearby, but that hasn't been a huge deal since we don't do it often.

Anyone have a video monitor they love and want to recommend? My dad said he'd be happy to buy us whatever monitor we want as a gift, but there are so many choices!

I've narrowed it down to the Summer Infant Full View (http://www.target.com/p/summer-infant-full-view-5-inch-pan-scan-zoom-video-monitor/-/A-16360956) and the Infant Optics DXR8 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ECHYTBI) - they seem pretty comparable, but the Infant Optics one has a room temperature sensor. Is that even useful?! Help!!
