We had just moved lo into her own room (right next to ours) but I was up many times a night to check on her. I keep the monitor on throughout the night so if I wake up I can look to see she's ok and then go back to sleep. The video helps me distinguish whether or not he needs me to intervene. If he is standing up, we are in trouble. I swear the cries are the same, so I don't think i could tell without video. I did obsessively watch when we sleep trained and now usually watch when we first put him down, if I think he is going to struggle. We only have it on as LO is falling asleep. For the first year I was so exhausted that I felt like I needed it to keep me from sleeping through his night wakings, now I only use it if he's sick or if I'm working in the yard during naps. It took us awhile before we moved her into her own room, and felt like we needed one because its not on the same floor. I do not know why I waited so long!
