I studied in Vienna for a year in college. It's such an amazing city. I would love to go back and take the LOs!

I second the butterfly house recommendation from @lamariniere. Also, seeing the Spanish Riding School (if it's open; I feel like a lot of things like that close in the summer), the zoo, visiting Schloss Schoenbrunn (the grounds are great for little ones to run around), and the Natural History Museum would all be fun for kids. The Prater is a big amusement park type thing in the city, but 11 months is probably a little young for that. (I seem to remember it feeling a bit sketchy). I just googled it and there is apparently a new children's museum that looks like lots of fun as well.

There are lots of good day trips you could take as well. I loved Graz, and you could definitely cover it in a day. Salzburg is fun, as is Budapest, and both are just a few hours away by train. If you go to Hungary, definitely visit one of the public bathes.

Have fun! I'd love to hear what you end up doing!

I live in Vienna with my 2-year-old son! We just moved here a few months ago for my husband's job. The great thing about Vienna is that it is extremely kid friendly. There are elevators everywhere (in public transit and in stores) and most cafes/restaurants are kid friendly. I can't wait to experience summer here as we have only seen winter so far.

Things we have done so far with our son have been the zoo, the aquarium, museums, markets, the vineyards that are on the outskirts of the city and the many, many parks. There is a butterfly house that we haven't seen yet and I hear there are beaches on the Danube in the summer. All of my mommy friends here tell me that Vienna is just wonderful with children in the summer.

I still feel pretty "new" to Vienna, especially since I don't speak German, but I would be happy to give you other recommendations.

We're planning on taking a trip to Austria in August when DS will be 11 months old. Our tentative plan is to stay in Vienna and rent a car. We will drive down to Graz for a day for DH's work. Aside from that, we don't have any plans yet. We could stay in Austria up to two weeks if we want.

Does anyone have recommendations for things to do/see in Vienna with an 11 month old? Are there day trips we could take from Vienna? How long would you stay?
