Fluff love and cloth diaper science (or their cleaning group) says vinegar is a no-no in the washing machine. Bad for the machine, I think it can eat at the rubber hoses and seals. Although it would probably take a lot of use I'm guessing. Vinegar might void some warranties, so maybe check those. I don't use fabric softener (at all) so have never needed to strip my towels. We are at a beach rental for a month and when we arrived the towels were mildewy smelling. I think someone left them in the washer for too long. So I did the vinegar and baking soda and they are like new.</p> <p>ETA: I've read that you shouldn't use dryer sheets with towels so I stopped doing that at home.
