I'd just go get seen by the eye doc if your ped suggested it. DH got glasses at 5y, and his bro got them at 3y, so I try to pay attention to whether my kids can see things appropriately (and always make the ped screen them). Might resolve or might not, but monitoring wouldn't be a bad thing.

My son failed his screening at school at age 4. It was also more comprehensive then just can you see the letters. We took him in and he got glasses for astigmatism in one eye. He also has to patch his good eye two hours a day to strengthen the bad eye. It's working and soon he shouldn't have to patch. And he showed zero signs of vision problems before the screening.

LO has a slight prescription but the doctor told us not to worry about it yet. We have such an active little dude, keeping glasses on him would be way more trouble than its worth right now. But we are going back every 6 months to monitor.

Our some was 20/40 at 4 years old and our ped wasn't concerned, she just rechecked at 5. At his 5 year appointment there was no change so she referred us to a pediatric optometrist. We took him in and he has a very slight astigmatism but not enough to warrant glasses. We are keeping an eye on him and will recheck after kindergarten.

We took DD1 to the eye doctor for an unrelated issue (she has an iris nevis), but her vision was 20/20. The eye doctor said that it wasn't uncommon for children to have 20/40 and it not get closer to 20/20 until maybe 5 or 6. I got glasses when I was 9 and my husband did in high school, so we are anticipating that she will need them sometime in her life.

We took DS at age 4 when his vision screen at school had a red flag for color blindness. We scheduled an eye exam and he also had a very small stigmatism in addition to full color blinded. I could have put him in glasses but we decided to wait because the stigmatism is so small. Definitely can't hurt to schedule an appointment!

My 4 year old just tested at 20/30 but pediatrician said at this age it's partially just getting used to the test and we'd continue to monitor unless kiddo was obviously having problems.

We take our 3yo to the eye doctor yearly and I think it's good to monitor just so you can see if it's changing. My husband and I both have bad vision and got glasses young. Our eye doctor did say it's typical for kids to be a little far sighted. I think my lo was 20/30 or so

My little man has been wearing glasses for about a year and half, he started wearing them just after three years old. We had zero clue that he was having any issues, turns out he has severe astigmatism. May be worth checking out.

We just had kiddo's 4 year old check-up, and her vision test came up as 20-40. The pediatrician encouraged us to have her checked by an optometrist, and we can't get in with anyone until September. From what little reading I did online, it seems like this is likely not a big deal at this age and she's definitely not showing any issues in daily function, but hubby and I both have crappy vision that started in childhood, so we're wondering if this is cause for concern. Any experiences folks have around this?
