We just visited my parents for 2 days, my dad had shingles. He had had them for about 2.5 weeks by the time we went and all the blisters were gone/ scabbed over. He never held LO while we were there and all was fine.

I actually had shingles about a month ago (not fun!) I made sure that DD didn't come into direct contact with the rash, and washed my hands A LOT, and she has been completely fine! She hasn't been vaccinated yet either. My case wasn't too bad though, and the rash was only in areas that were always covered by clothing anyways.

I had shingles while breastfeeding! My doc said as long the baby wasn't exposed to open blisters it was safe... and my blisters never opened, they were just little bumps. I still covered them with a giant bandage and taped over it just in case. But you can't catch shingles... shingles is a re-activation of the dormant chicken pox virus in your body.

When I was pregnant, my grandfather had active shingles when we went to visit. Since I had never had chicken pox (or been vaccinated) we were concerned but I checked with my OB as was told just not to have direct physical contact. I would think that if she had them 4 weeks ago your LO would be fine but you could always call your pediatrician and see what they say.

My FIL had shingles when she was born, so we waited about four weeks so that all his blisters had a chance to scab over. The way I understand it, once all of the blisters are scabbed, the person is no longer contagious.

My mother had shingles over the holidays when DS was 7 months. We still saw her, just didn't let her hold him. We were told as long as no one came in contact with any open blisters we were fine. Her rash never blistered so we felt ok with her seeing him. Also his pedi said that he could be in the same room as her.

My MIL had shingles and we are waiting 3-4 weeks to see her, and even then she has to be sure that absolutely all the lesions are scabbed and crusted over, which I'm sure they will be. That sounds like a good time frame for you to be in the clear!

We are taking a trip to visit my in-laws in a couple weeks. I recently found out that my MIL had shingles a couple weeks ago. So it'll be about a month since she had it when we go visit. DD is 14 months old and hasn't had the varicella vaccine yet. Do you think I should be concerned??
