Oh a little tidbit that helped us, there is a baby equipment rental company, recommended by our hotel concierge, we rented a carseat, you can also rent cribs, strollers, jumpers, playpens, toys, highchairs you name it! We had a good experience carseat was in great shape and clean delivered to the hotel, and pretty reasonably priced helped save us the hassle of finding a cab with a carseat plus I don't hear great things about the ones provided by car rentals! It's this company, http://www.sandiegotravelbaby.com/sdtb/index.php?cPath=21

We just visited last week for a wedding, it was myself and my 15 month old, we stayed at Hotel Palomar downtown. There are tons of restaurants and things to do downtown, the hotel was really cool and accommodating, but I'd say better suited for those sans very small children!

The Omni is close to Balboa Park and the Zoo. We are looking to stay there b/c we have a certificate from a family member.

Have you tried looking on vrbo or airbnb ? When traveling with a baby I think finding a great condo where we can cook our own meals and have LO in a separate room is always more comfortable then a hotel. I haven't been to San Diego in quite some time but we stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado and it was great - a San Diego landmark. http://www.hoteldel.com

We've decided to visit San Diego and I need advice on hotels. Family friendly and pool is a definite. Should we stay in the city or just outside? Is traffic crazy?
