My vitamin D hovers around 10. I take 1,000 units daily and took it all through pregnancy with the blessing of my doctors. Please talk to your doctors to see what's right for you :)

@MrsCastro: No idea what my number was. He said "really low" whatever that means. I get Seasonal Affective Disorder as well (my anxiety/depression is MUCH worse in the fall/winter) so he said the Vitamin D will help.

I have a slight vitamin D deficiency (my primary care caught it) and I got pregnant without any issue. I just take my prenatals and try to get out in the sun as much as I can.

@redmarties; what was your vitamin D number?

maybe because mine was so low she wants me to do a mega dose...

That's a neat way of doing it! My naturopath recommended these weird drops that are 1000iu each (3 drops a day). I've been on them for several months; I wonder if it would go faster if I took the megadoses like you do? That's something to look into for sure!

when i went to annual dr visit and expressed i wanted to try and get pregnant in the next few months (hopefully) she recommended i go to OB for a pre-prenatal exam, it was the OB that sugguested i get a few tests done, Vitamin D being one.

I guess the average range for Vitamin D is 20-70, mine was 16...Ouch...so now i have to take a daily D2 2,000iu and a weekly (for 3months) 50,000iu D2 pill. and then retest after i finish...

I'm Vitamin D deficient. I take drops daily from my naturopath, and as far as I've heard, they're fine for TTC. Plus, if they ARE unsafe for pregnancy, I would just cut them out once you find out you're pregnant. Ultimately, if you're healthy, your potential baby will be healthy (hopefully!)
