@Andrea: Well that is good! I wasn't trying to suggest you had a thyroid issue, just that was something to consider. I've been check for a bunch of things since having DS and all have been normal, so I'm not sure what the deal is here.

@anbanan15: they said my thyroid is fine so I dunno! Hopefully I will feel better in the spring with more sunshine! Keep me posted if they find any other cause to this tiredness. I get enough sleep so I know that isn't my issue ....

@Andrea: Oh no! I was SO tired before to the point where I could hardly moved an I turned out to be hypothyroid. My thyroid levels are good now so they were looking at alternatives as to why I'm still tired (besides the obvious, new mom of a baby that doesn't STTN lol). Hope you get some
energy soon!

Yes being in the sun is the obvious answer. It's starting to get nice out around here so I'll be able to make more of an effort with that. I'm actually not surprised I'm low in d with us just coming put of winter and all.

@anbanan15: I just found out I am deficient, too, but my LO is older so I am no longer breastfeeding. I am trying to get more sun but it is not easy!

Hmmmm.... be in the sun more? That's our greatest source to produce vit D, and generally works better than trying to supplement.

Can you get more sun? That's probably the easiest way to increase your vitamin D without changing your diet.

A lot of people are vitamin D deficient and don't know it. I actually just ran a panel of 40 human samples the other day and only 3 were sufficient. Kind of sad.

@chopsuey119: I'm currently seeing an endocrinologist and she ran some tests, one of which was for vitamin D. Turns out I'm low. If your concerned I'm sure your primary care provider would be happy to order labs for it at your request.

Anyone else vitamin D deficient while breastfeeding?

I just found out I'm deficient and was prescribed a 50,000 IU/week pill, but hesitate to take it because it is a class C medication (also may contain soy and peanuts) and over the RDA while breastfeeding. I also read on safefetus.com that it can cause hyperclamcia in nursing infants: http://safefetus.com/DrugDetail.asp?DrugId=1229&TradeName=Ergocalciferol&TradeId=2716.

What did you do to get your vitamin D intake up? (note I can't change my diet to add more vitamin D rich foods because DS has severe food allergies and we only have 7 safe foods for myself at this time)
