Hmmm I have no idea what T's iron is right now. I did buy him some fortified oatmeal so maybe I'll just try to give him that for iron (he went nuts for oatmeal with cinnamon the other day), plus the vitamin d drops....and if that isn't enough, try the Carlsons!

My LO wouldn't let us give him the poly vi sol. We were surprised because he liked the Vitamin D one but I guess the iron really does make it taste bad.
We found Childlife Essentials liquid multivitamins at our local version of Whole Foods here - it is for 6 months and up and at first LO did not want to taste it (flashbacks to the poly) but it tastes good and he opens his mouth wide now for us in the morning to take it. It does not look like it has iron though.

NovaFerrum liquid iron and Vitamin D (Carlsons). LO loved the iron! I think it is grape flavored.

We did vitamin D drops and baby oatmeal mixed with formula and prunes for iron. I also made fruit smoothies with formula powder mixed in that we would spoon feed him. And I tried to look for pouches with greens mixed in for the iron. He didn't mind the polyvisol until one day at 6 months he rejected it completely so we had to get creative. Once he got to about 9-10 months I offered him some ground beef in the form of meatballs and always tried to put some beef or spinach in his diet during the week.

@regberadaisy: @Foodnerd81: oh ok, thanks! LO is 7 months so I'll expect to have a blood test at his 9 or 12 month appointment. Thanks for the heads up!

@Boopers: in my state (MA) they do a blood draw to test for iron levels and lead (lots of older homes I guess?). For us it was a full blood draw from a vein in her arm- it sucked! They do it at 9 or 12 months and again at 2 years (though that one night only be lead? Can't remember).

I guess it depends on if he needs the iron? It's an in office finger prick. Then they sent her for bloodwork for confirmation because her levels were so low. She has thalassemia trait.
DD1 was on polyvisol + iron up until she was 18m. Her levels were down to about a 3 between 9-12m.

@Boopers: most peds I know test for iron levels at either the 9m or 12m check up. Their iron stores from birth start to deplete around 9m.

Our ped recommended it for J and we never gave it because he hated it and we've since switched ped's and no one has recommended it for D so she doesn't get anything. Idk I wish there was a clearer picture, j we could only get him to take when put into a bottle feeding.

My kid was a weirdo who liked the taste of the poli-vi-sol. I thought it was nasty. But I often forgot to give it to her and she had borderline low iron at 9 months, so I do feel bad about that. But she also never had rice cereal or formula and didn't really get many fortified infant foods in general- I think if they are eating things fortified with iron more it might not be as much of a concern.

I think iron supplements always taste like butt! We just give vitamin D drops-could you try drips in orange juice or something? Bonus, vitamin C helps absorb iron.

I just gave the vitamin D drops because I had a hard time getting DS to consume the poly-vi-sol with iron. He had very low iron at 9 months, so I really regret not being more persistent with the iron drops. My son was not a good eater of solids until 9 months, and we really pushed fruits and vegetables over cereal.

Our pedi recommended the poly-vi-sol also and yuck! I gave him the vitamin D drops instead, but otherwise, no vitamins. Thankfully, he's always been a good eater so I wasn't worried and he's not deficient. Now that he's a toddler, he occasionally has picky days so I give him a gummy vitamin.

@GoGoSnoGirl: I was wondering if, because T is on food now, that we can skip the bigger vitamin dose and just do vitamin d (which i keep meaning to get back to--i had some and threw it out when it expired)
