hmm yeah i was under the impression the shot at birth was for that! Twice might be overkill, I have no idea. There may be another reason, though.

@blackbird: Apparently the Topamax depletes Vitamin K and interferes with the baby's clotting ability. But I've also found that because studies have shown no benefit to taking Vitamin K before birth (the injection at birth should be sufficient), the American Academy of Neurology doesn't recommend it anymore, which may be why my neurologist hasn't mentioned it.

You're talking about a high end specialist...if he/she knows that you have MTHFR and everything else, I'd default to their advice.

i have MTHFR but was only on baby aspirin and the Folgard by the end of my pregnancy. There were a few times when the dr asked me to stop taking aspirin because it harder to clot (like before my CVS)

Why do they want you on the Vitamin K? what's it supposed to do, thicken your blood?

My MFM told me they want me to start taking Vitamin K at 36 weeks because I'm on Topamax, which can cause hemorrhaging in newborns. I've heard of this before but I'm a little hesitant because I have an MTHFR mutation. I'll see the MFM once more before I have to start taking it, but if you're familiar with either of these what do you think? Would you do it?
