I primarily focus on hydration, very small sips about every 15 mins to see how that helps. When mine can tolerate liquid for a good hour, then I try to offer some cracker, toast, banana, white rice.

For us, it is really dependent on her mood and temperature. If she has a high fever and is acting sick, I stick to clear liquids for awhile. Mine has a tendency to throw up even liquid when she is like that, so we really limit it. If she is acting mostly normal (even if that means cranky) and temp is relatively low (for us, this goes up to maybe 102), I give simple stuff like crackers, Os, bananas but only if she wants to eat them. Either way, I try to keep her hydrated since that's the most important thing.

My ped just says to ensure hydration is happening first, and that little to nothing to eat for a day or two is fine. I tend to be pro-eating though because I don't want him to puke up bile or acid (he was a reflux baby so I'm a little touchy about it) and would prefer he puke food.

DS is 18 months. When he's sick he won't eat hardly anything and refuses all dairy or milk. I've noticed he does a LOT better after a few hours on white Gatorade (it's called like Glacier Cherry Frost or something) over ice, then I offer him bland carby things, like Gerber vanilla wheat biscuits, baby food breakfast (like the fruit and oatmeal pouches), some plain rice porridge with a little soy sauce mixed in, a frozen waffle or mini pancake (he likes them frozen for some reason). He only takes a few spoonfuls or bites at a time, but that's okay with me.

Usually a day or so after he's keeping those things down, I might offer him banana and McDonald's French fries (he will almost always eat that for some reason and it has some calories in it). If he keeps that down, we are usually turning a corner.

Honestly I keep them on clear liquids for about 8 hours. We have very touchy tummies here. Only sips of fluids for at least 4 of those hours then drink to thirst the other 4. If we can manage liquids for 8 hours then I move on to toast or crackers. Hope your LO feels better soon.

I wait an hour and then feed a tablespoon of liquid every 15 minutes for 2 hours than give a cracker. But I'm no doctor ha!

My LO is sick with a stomach bug and I'm wondering how long after throwing up do you wait to offer food? I don't want her to continue to throw up because she's eating. What's the rule?
