I do remember as a kid puking in the mornings if I drank a bunch of ice-cold water. Even now I only drink warm water first thing in the morning.

My DD has been sick a lot lately... 3 weeks ago she puked after her morning milk but was fine. 2 weeks ago she had a tummy ache, puked, slept, and was fine. The past 2 days both kids were sick... here's hoping we are DONE with the puke.

We went through some weird phases of this as well. It was weirdly always on weekend mornings and he would throw up once and be saying his tummy was sick or hurting and then done. We eventually tied it to mornings after he hadn’t eaten much at supper, slept later since it was a weekend, and then almost always he would gulp a bunch of water as soon as he got up and then throw up. I think his stomach was empty and he was actually hungry and the water was too much. Once he ate crackers or toast he was fine. We never took him to the doctor over it because we started to see a pattern to it but I totally get your worry...I do that too! It just seemed so strange because it was never on a weekday and that’s when I noticed the pattern.

Well, she puked again this morning. But we sent her to school anyway. I am starting to think that she is getting worked up in the mornings (not sure about what yet) and her response to that is to vomit. I had a lot of anxiety when I was a kid, so it wouldn't surprise me that she trends towards that...

I had a co-worker whose son was had a nervous stomach. A lot of it was more emotional with the transition to Kindergarten. It got to the point where the school stopped calling because he was sick every day at school, seemingly in an attempt to go home. I believe they wound up going to and counselor and with time as well things improved.

@Mrs. Cereal: I wouldn't classify my oldest as a frequent puker in the past, but this winter, she had 4 separate days (but each 1-2 weeks apart) where she would throw up 1-2 times in the morning before school. But she would bounce back pretty quickly each time. But lots of complaints of her stomach hurting all the time. But it seems to have passed (knock on wood) now, a few months later. She also had strep twice in this time, and I don't know if the antibiotics messed with her stomach or what.

My kids are not pukers so if one of them does vomit(which has only been like one instance); my mommy radar goes into overdrive trying to figure out what’s wrong.

However, I’ve worked with elementary students for the past 10 years and I’ve seen frequent vomiters. They’ll throw up and then continue without batting an eye. The parents too. It was also a wide range of issues like upset stomach, nausea from motion sickness like car rides, eating too much sugar or sweets, eat infections, fever, swimming too much, etc. some of them just had gag reflexes that was prone to throw up. They all outgrew it or it happens less as they grew older. But if your radar is going off, doesn’t hurt to check

So I was quite a puker when I was young (and even now still have a pretty sensitive gag reflex, it's my first symptom when I get sick, etc). It was at its worst when I was in early elementary school and I eventually grew out of it. I don't know if we ever figured out an official cause, but a lot of it was related to stomach bugs, colds, allergies and the post-nasal drip that comes with those things. However, I think a lot of it was mental. I had a lot of untreated anxiety when I was young and missing school was definitely a trigger for it. So if I missed a day due to sickness it was really hard for me to get back into the swing of things and I would work myself up so much about it that I would throw up when I had to go back. I eventually grew out of it, but still have anxiety to a certain extent.

Anyway, not saying that's what's going on here, but just wanted to let you know that I was a puker at that age!

@gotkimchi: She complains about her stomach hurting, but it doesn't seem tied to any food or any situation.
@Mrsbells: No mucous that I can see, and she hasn't complained about that.
@bhbee: I was going to give it until Wednesday and if shes still not feeling well, I'm going to take her back in.

I think I'm probably overreacting, but I always go the worst case scenario. I can see that it is likely that she is just a kid who pukes easily and the stream of colds over the last month or so has not helped.

My DD is an easy and frequent puker. The last big bug she had was in January and she wasn't herself for 10 whole days.... Towards the end she wasn't vomiting but she couldn't last the day at school (I sent her on Thursday after being vomit free for over 48 hrs). But when she got there they knew she was off and sent her home. I began to worry and called the ped. They didn't Even want to see her and luckily within two more days she was finally back to herself. Took 12 whole days!!!

Anyway all that...if your radar is going off of I get her seen and if your ped isn't taking you seriously I'd go to urgent care or er. I'd rather go and find out its nothing then wait and have it end up worse....

Another thing that came to mind is picking up strep ... sometimes it manifests in vomiting. Seems unlikely after a week on antibiotics, although my oldest had recurrent strep in kinder and needed a new antibiotic so small possibility.

She was just a kid that threw up every time she was sick, especially if there was a fever. Thankfully at 7 now she seems to have grown out of it, but in kinder it was still happening.

I’d probably have the pediatrician do a recheck on her ears and look for anything else that the amoxicillin may not be clearing. Sometimes you need something stronger. Hugs while you deal with this!

@Mrs. Cereal: Does she have a lot of mucus that could be gagging her making her throw up?

My five year old daughter has always been an easy vomiter. She often throws up on trips in the car and has been prone to tantrum induced vomiting. However, over the last month or so, she's been throwing up more frequently. It started when we all came down with a pretty gross cold. She would cough to the point of vomiting, but then she would be fine. The cold was replaced by another cold about a week later, which came with pink eye and eventually lead to a double ear infection. This was a week ago, I took her to the doctor, she prescribed amoxicillin for the ear infections and off we went. My daughter has now been on the antibiotics for a week and just this morning she threw up before school. She also threw up yesterday in the middle of the day.

Typically she bounces back pretty quick from these instances, but I am also now noticing (for a little over two weeks) that she is also rather pale, when she used to be very rosy cheeked. My mommy radar is going off big time, and I was placated when the doctor said she had a double ear infection. But now that it is not getting better, I am worried that something else might be wrong. Have any of the bees out there had a kid that puked over everything? And what was the final outcome?
