My ped chose to use the word sensitivity instead of allergy, but still told us to avoid the food that caused that reaction for my LO. It's never hurts to avoid to be safe. :)

Just an update in case anyone searches for this- the nurse at the ped said it probably wasn't an allergy but to not to strawberries until one year.

And this morning (3 days later) I woke up with a stomach bug. So definitely a bug not allergy. Dh took the baby to a st pats day parade party and I have the apartment to my sick self. Bleh.

I'm voting bug on this one. Only because I just had a slightly similar situation with A over the weekend.
A is 11 months old, so I was trying to introduce Milk slowly to wean her off formula. Well I started this Sat and Sunday and Sunday night she started projectile vomiting. I was convinced it was the Milk since she has some sensitivity. But then it turned into Diarrhea and not eating or drinking and getting dehydrated and yeah lots of no fun.
So, no milk issue but stomach bug that just happened to hit at the same time as introducing something new.
Keep an eye on wet diapers for sure.
And I agree with @MamaMoose: that maybe waiting until after 1yr for strawberries.

@Weagle: @Silva: I gave her the strawberries at lunch time and dinner time (like, 1 and 6 ish). She kind of nibbled at them both times, didn't have more than a couple of bites total, and she was only nibbling at the sweet potatoes too, which are usually a hit. She was more interested in drinking her water, but I thought it was because she finally figured out how to tilt the sippy cup herself. She didn't throw up until 10, after she had been in bed for a couple of hours. She also hardly nursed before bed which is very unlike her. So, it sounds like maybe it was more of a bug than an allergy? I'll call the ped just in case, and hold off on the strawberries, but she seemed fine this morning, nursed like normal, just a little extra sleepy, which makes sense since she obviously didn't get a lot of sleep last night.

@Foodnerd81: how soon after she ate did she vomit? Our daughter threw up after eating egg, but it was 4 hours later so our ped said unlikely to be an allergy. He was right!

@Foodnerd81: Yes. The same day. Less than an hour later. After figuring out it was the egg, and confirming with the doctor, we didn't do much about it but wait. We didn't give her any eggs by themselves, but she could eat things like bread or cake with eggs baked in.

ETA: the first time we gave her eggs she had the spit-up reaction. The second time she had the puking episode - maybe a week later.

That's how lo's egg sensitivity presented itself. The first time it was just a little bit, more like spit up, so we didn't think anything about it. The second time she just kept puking over and over. She only had a tiny bit of yolk. She outgrew it by 15 months.

@Foodnerd81: it's actually recommended to hold off on strawberry until a year because it is a very allergenic food. I would wait a while before trying again to give her digestive system time to grow. My LO used to have toooooons of food intolerances and has outgrown all of them except eggs. She can eat them baked into things but if I give her straight egg it's puke city.

@Foodnerd81: I think that's a good plan. I really thought it could be a fluke the first time too. And LO had some cantaloupe too, which made me more unsure. First time mom nerves made me avoid completely for a solid month. When it happened the second time we really felt it had to be the banana.
It sounds like your LO didn't puke quite as much as mine did. Mine did it over and over, it was horrible (not that your situation is wonderful!). Poor baby just might have a tummy ache. I think getting used to solids can be tough on their tummies at first.

@Foodnerd81: we had this experience, but with bananas. No family history of allergies, LO handled tons of other foods really well. He actually had banana as his first food, a couple times, with no problems. However, I'm convinced that in those early days he wasn't ingesting much.
Long story short, he ate a ton of banana one day and puke city! :( so bad that we called the emergency nurse line, I was in tears, ready to go to the ER, etc. No other symptoms. No fever, rashes, nothing. Was perfectly fine the next day.
We avoided bananas for at least a full month and then tried again - same reaction! :( Brought it up at our next doctors appointment and we were advised to avoid bananas completely until LO is 2 years old. But the doctor was hesitant to call it an allergy officially.

I vote maybe. Strawberry is a highly allergenic food and vomiting could be a sign of allergy (it was for Baby Brother) but it's hard to know over the internet, KWIM? I would avoid them just to be safe until you talk to your doctor.

C is 7.5 months old and we've been introducing new foods slowly, but since we don't have any family history of food allergies, haven't been being super cautious.

Today, C was extra sleepy, and didn't really eat much at all, nursing or solids. Otherwise, she seemed fine. She had a few bites of strawberry, for the first time.

She just threw up all over her crib. We did a bath, changed everything, and got her back to sleep. She didn't seem overly upset, doesn't seem to have a fever. Do I need to worry about it being an allergy-- to strawberries?-- or is it probably just a fluke? Poor baby.

I'm also googling and searching the HB archives, of course, but since it's a postathon...
