@MrsStar: @.twist.: thanks for the support! We made it through the night  I hope your son is better this morning @.twist.:

@Kemma: thanks for the breast milk suggestion. I let him have too much at first and he threw up, but I'm glad to know he got some good out of it before it all came back out.

@BabyBoecksMom: wow, stomach bug at 3 months? We've been bathing and washing our hands after every instance so I hope no one else gets it. I'm glad to know Gatorade is acceptable too.

We got through the night with one only more throwing up incident, two diapers changes, and LOTS of very sad crying. He seemed incredibly thirsty and it was hard to get him to drink slowly and wait for more. Hopefully the day will go up from here!

The advice people gave is good. DD1 got the stomach bug when she was 3 months old and we all ended up catching it, so be very careful because it will be much harder and longer for you than your child. We were told to offer small feedings every 30 min or so to see if she could hold it down. If that worked, start offering sips of Gatorade (same as pedialite, but cheaper and tastes better). Hope it passes quickly!

You could try offering breastmilk in the form of short nursing sessions, the nutrients in bm are absorbed fast so even if your LO can't keep it down for too long.

Hope your wee one feels better soon!

Ugh. No experience, just hugs, feel better little one!

Our 9 year old just randomly vomited while getting up to pee. I have no idea why because he's not great at communicating, but it seems stomach bugish. I'm trying to figure out how to keep it away from L. If that's even an option at this point.

@HLK208: thanks for the advice. It makes me feel less like a crazy First Time Mom for holding him while he sleeps. The husband is like "You gonna sit there all night?" Yes, I think I am! :silly: I'm sorry to hear your whole family got sick! We gave him (and me since I was holding him) a bath when we got home, but he spent the whole day playing with his cousins. I hope we haven't spread it around too far already!

@Pepper: thank you! I was wondering about when to give him liquids. He's still nursing and wanted some milk, but threw up immediately. I'm glad to hear your little guy's vomiting didn't last too long!

@googly-eyes: we were thinking food too, since it seemed to come on all of the sudden and he wasn't acting sick beforehand. I teach primary & had 2 kids go home sick yesterday (I girl vomits in class), so it seems likely that's the culprit.

When LO has thrown up I have still tried bedtime as usual. This past time she only threw up once and it was in the motn and I didn't find out til the middle of the next day when I saw her sheets. We've never had that much though. Just a few what turned out to be isolated incidents.

Maybe just something bad to eat? I have a rough time when LO is sick, so I hope you get through this quickly and have a happy LO soon!

Poor baby and mama! We just went through a stomach bug with my 9 month old a few weeks ago. We waited until the vomiting tapered off, then offered very small sips of pedialyte every 15-20 minutes to keep him hydrated. Once he kept that down for several hours, we slowly reintroduced milk.

The vomiting didn't last for more than 14 hours. The diarrhea lasted over a week, however. We stuck to the BRAT diet and I gave him probiotics.

The night he threw up, I put him in bed with DH and I with a towel under his head. I was also nervous to leave him on his own, even though he initially threw up in his sleep. I found him sound asleep and covered in it because I happened to go in to check on him.

Hope he feels better soon!

Just hold him while he's sleeping. Grab a burp cloth to absorb anymore vomit. I would hold off on liquids until the vomiting has stopped for a few hours. Then offer him small amounts of pedialyte or DD's doctor even said Gatorade. I'm sorry you're going through this :( it's so rough. Hope he gets better fast. Oh and wash your hands a ton, if it's anything like norovirus, it can spread like wildfire. We had it a month ago and it was a really, really bad week. Luckily DD, who was 21 months recovered the fastest out of everyone and was able to eat bland foods 5 hours after the vomiting stopped (but we also had her on zofran).

We were just at a wedding and F started puking all over! We brought him to MIL's (we're out of town) and cleaned him up, but he's never thrown up like this before (hes 18 months) and I'm not quite sure what to do. He can't hold down any liquids (including breast milk) and he's thrown up 7 times in 3 hours, but no fever.

He also had diarrhea late in the afternoon, so my best guest is stomach bug. How do I know when to offer him liquids again? He's sleeping now but I'm nervous to put him down and have him throw up all over himself. Experienced mommas: how do you get through the first real illness? Any tips to make this easier on him?
