DS1 does this. He'll be 3 next week. He can sit criss cross and with legs straight out, but definitely doesn't want/prefer to. He is now in OT to gain core strength and the "W" sitting is what made us realize the problem.

I don't remember her ever sitting this way. Now she tends to sit with both legs to one side, very lady like!

DS sits in a W sometimes. When he started preschool at 2, they taught him how to sit criss cross, and we would encourage that. It became a lot easier for him to sit that way once he practiced in school and at home. Now at 3 he sits all different ways (W, criss cross, legs in front, sitting on his legs...) and there's enough variety that I'm not really concerned about it anymore. So my thoughts are not to worry too much about it at 12 months.

DS is 2.5 and does, but he can also sit with his legs out in front of him and criss-crossed. I'm not concerned.

She does occasionally (14 mo). I correct her when I'm with her, but not too concerned.

Does your LO sit like this? (with their legs flipped out, making them the middle of the W). My 3 year old did for awhile around 1.5-2, but I gently encouraged her to sit criss cross and she would.

However, my 12 month old has started sitting like this and aside from constantly changing her legs, there isn't much I can do yet because she doesn't understand to change her position!

A member of my extended family sat like this as a child and his stance is VERY obvious as an adult because of it. Both his legs turn out!
