WAHM two days/week and my FIL comes to watch S one day and my dad the other day. I wouldn't get anything done if I had to take care of S and work at the same time.

Fulltime daycare for me! I need to use the phone too much and I don't want clients to hear my children.

I WFH full time, normal 8a-5p hours, Monday through Friday. I wouldn't be able to do it without some sort of childcare. My mom has been coming over, every work day, since I came back from maternity leave (LO is 16 months now). With LO #2 on the way, it's going to be harder (with a toddler and a newborn, both being chased around and cared for by my almost-70 year old mother), so we're going to put LO#1 in the city's preschool/tiny tots program as soon as we can.

also, baby proof like crazy. if LO does leave me alone to work, it pretty much means she is doing something she shouldn't, coloring on the wall, you name it . . .

I WAH 2 days a week. I think it would be really hard to do all the time. I can do less the 2 days and more the 3 days I am in the office. I work like crazy during naptime, after bedtime if needed and sometimes I get up really early to work. depends on the day what is needed. LO is not a fan of me being on the computer, but at 22 months she is now pretty interested in shows like Daniel Tiger. if I'm desperate to get some things done between her sleep times I will let her watch a show.

How many hours do you need per day? My son is just now really getting independent play, but there is no way I could do anything of substance for more than 20 minutes...not helpful, I know.

I do some work at home. It's my own business so I can work independently and don't have to rely on a boss or coworkers. I do have deadlines though so it does need to get done. I try and do most of it during her nap. The odd day she will be really good and independent and let me open the laptop and do some work. Some days, cartoons and a pile of toys keep her occupied. Other days she wants to climb on top of me and the laptop so those days I get not much done. We do also have casual daycare that we can call ahead to book her in if my husband or I fall behind in our work.

Well, @Lamariniere The thing is that it's not regular work. Some days I have a ton of things to do and other days not so much. It's not really up to me and I can't schedule because things just pop up. Also, ha, I don't think I could really afford it right now.

I also WAH full time, but DS has been in school for almost a year now (and he's almost 3). I didn't start feeling really good about my work until I had peace and quiet. Can you hire a babysitter for half days or a few hours a day so you can get some work done?

Thanks for the ideas. I just need to set aside some time to get organized with his toys and projects. He can be a little... destructive... so he might have to paint on the patio :)

I am also thinking that instead of jumping into work first thing, I should spend some quality time with him first. Has anyone tried that?

@glimmersnaps: Also, do you do a toy rotation? I find that she will play with a set of toys a lot more already. For example, this weekend I brought out all of her "baby stuff" so she could play with the highchair, baby beds, blankets, etc.

I WAH full time and it's very, very hard! I get the bulk of my work done while she's napping, after my husband gets home, or while she's at preschool. I try to avoid working at night but lately it's been more and more necessary.

In the summer, I have a caregiver watch her during the day.

I WAHM half the time, but i have LO in daycare because there is no way i could get work done. I'm expected to be present/available during the day, so my situation is probably a bit different from yours.

Ditto to the suggestions above. Art projects keep my 19 month old entertained for quite a while!!

I WOHM, but when my 2.5 yr old is starting to really get into art projects.

- Glue magazine pictures
- Cut magazine pictures out
- Paint various objects
- Glitter paint
- Play dough

I've been working from home more and more frequently and I need to figure out how to keep my 2.5 yo entertained while I'm busy on the computer. Right now it's usually the iPad, but I don't want that to go on for hours a day. How do you make it work?
