I have to really bust ass to get 20-25 hours a week in- I burn the candle at both ends. It's hard to fit in gym time, kid activities, keep a husband happy, cook, and clean and stay sane.

Usually I'm up working from after kid bedtime 9ish until about 1-1:30 am. Then up again at 7 and work while the kiddos are having breakfast and getting in morning PBS. I have one day onsite where I get 8-10 hours and my husband takes the kids on his weekday off. I get various tutoring sessions, filing, and special projects for my boss done 1-2 nights a week once my husband gets home.

I WAH as a tutor (a "full student load" for me is about 8-12 hours a week M-Thur), and also WOH at school during the school year on a part-time basis. This summer was a bit of a challenge as I pieced together care. I had two fantastic high school girls baby-sit much of the time, as my former nanny is expecting and finished working with us as of June. I had a two-week period of time just now where I didn't have childcare, so I had to 'grin and bear it' and scheduled tutoring sessions during my 8.5 month old's naps. It was only 2-3 hours a day which helped, although I was nervous about it! It worked out in the end...sessions are an hour long, so he would sleep while I tutored. If he went down late/woke up early he'd just sit next to us playing, and then I extended the session a few minutes if I had to tend to him at all. The parents knew I was in a pinch and didn't mind that he was around. I'm well aware that I'm in the 'sweet spot' of baby-hood where predictable naps and a less-than-mobile child meant I could do this! Starting in a few weeks I have a new nanny, and she'll be here whenever I have tutoring students. I also will have her come early/stay after students so I can run to the grocery store, exercise, etc. I personally find that the more I think I can cram into my hours with a nanny, the more frustrated I feel when it doesn't all get done. Therefore I only set up a few daily goals (tutor students, go to the grocery on one day...tutor students, go for a run the next day, etc.) This helps me feel accomplished instead of behind, and also like I can be intentional with my time. I hope you enjoy the balance as you get into the swing of things! I am so lucky to have my job situation and absolutely love what I do.

DH & I both WAH but we're now at the crossroads of thinking that DD needs part-time daycare or a nanny to come in. I currently get 20-24 hours done a week as it is but I need more time to focus and get more done. DH has been putting in 70-90 hour weeks with this latest project and solo parenting with tendinitis is sort of a nightmare.

I have B in daycare 5 days a week FT. As for D, I'm keeping her home for now. She naps 4 hours a day. I am setting up nursery in the office so I can hopefully squeak out 2 more hours a day. She will start daycare around 1.

I WAH full time, but I have full time child care. Essentially I'm telecommuting so I'm expected to have child care (just like if I was physically in the office).

I WAH and both of my LOs go to daycare. Until recently, the younger one only went until 12:30 and then I would pick her up to bring her home to nap. Then a few months ago we pushed it back to 2:30. When we get back from vacation she will go until 4:00, same time as my older LO (school closes at 4:30). I'm actually looking forward to this because I often have to work nights and weekends because of the short childcare hours. I think I need a minimum of 25 hours per week, but 30 would be ideal.

My older is going to be in school 3 days a week and I hired a nanny for 2.5 days for the baby. I'm hoping I can work around 15-20 hours a week....but it seems like I'm working all the time just to squeak out those hours! I can get about 6 hours of work on the full day nanny days so far (I still am dropping and picking up the older from school) and then a few hours the half day. But I'm always trying to squeak in a little more time.

How do you balance working from home?
