I was always told that if they rolled themselves onto their tummies then it's ok. We just aren't supposed to place them down that way. My LO started rolling in her sleep at an early age, too.

Once we swaddle weaned at six months DS immediately started sleeping on his side or belly! and that was the first time he STTN!

I would say as long as he can roll, and lift his head up and hold himself up with his hands, you're good to go! Just be sure he still doesn't sleep with blankets or any hazards.

Our ped OK'ed blankets at 6 months once he was more agile.

That was our epiphany just shy of 6 months, once we started putting him to bed that way, he started STTN! He was a little later in rolling over, so I'm glad we waited, but it was an awesome discovery.

I'm all for tummy naps once they can move their heads from side to side. My DD loves sleeping on her tummy. She's 4 months and she napped on her tummy from 2 months (supervised). :)

Yes, once she started rolling over, we let her sleep on her stomach.

Once LO was able to go from back-to-belly and belly-to-back we let him nap on his tummy. We wanted him to be able to 'go both ways' first. After a few weeks he started moving to his tummy himself regardless of how we put him down.

Yep. We started letting LO nap on her belly at 10 weeks, but probably wouldn't have if her head control hadn't been so good.

DS only rolls onto his sides from his back at the moment, but he fell asleep when I put him down for tummy time last week...whimpered a few minutes and then was out like a light for like THREE HOURS! It was glorious! (Like A, E will usually only sleeps in my arms). My house was clean and laundry was done--I didn't know what to do with myself!

That said, I was super paranoid about it and sat like 5 feet away from him, even though he could (and did, when he woke up) lift his upper body up and roll onto his side, etc.

ETA: Btw, I love that picture of him! He looks like such a little boy!

If my LO had tolerated it I would have napped him on his belly early on. I think it's ok to put him down on his belly if he has good head control.

If he's rolling over, there isn't too much you can do about it anyway. If it lets him sleep, do it!

It us a personal choice but I started letting lot nap on her belly at 2.5 months.

I started letting LO sleep on her stomach around 3 months for naps since she preferred it so much. I would just peek in her room every so often to be sure all was well. Plus, we have the Angelcare monitor, so that helped me to worry less.

For me, if they can lift up their heads to move from side to side (go from laying on one cheek to the other) then they are ready. Also if you're closely monitoring them anyway there's less of a suffocation risk.

I'm pretty sure it's not a problem once they can roll over, since they are capable of ending up on their tummies on their own anyway...Hopefully someone else will back this up?

So the past few days LittleBebe keeps rolling onto his tummy while he's sleeping & waking himself up He's pretty pissed about it too.

(yes, naps have been hell unless I'm holding him. At this point I need someone to hold ME).

It just occurred to me.... can I put him on his belly to sleep at this point?

(if you say yes, cue angels singing. If not, well...sigh).
