I'm so sorry you're going through it. Just for your peace of mind - For my first miscarriage, when we knew we were going to miscarry, my doctor specifically told me to take ibuprofen if the cramping got too much. Eventually, I called him in the middle of the night because it was so bad and he told me to take a prescription strength ibuprofen. So it is safe to take for miscarriage.

I hope it all passes quickly for you. The waiting is torturous. ::hugs::

I'm so sorry for your loss! I would absolutely take advil and tylenol as needed - they are both safe for BF. Thinking of you.

Thank you all so much! I can't even tell you how much the support means. We had a fun day planned yesterday that I had been looking forward to for months. I did take the ibuprofen and will going forward as needed. I'm really hoping to avoid a d&c but I am not sure I can mentally wait a really long time. I'm hoping the intermittent cramping is a sign that my body is moving in the right direction.

I'm so sorry. I started (red) bleeding on a Thursday morning (I'd had an ultrasound the day before and it was clear the pregnancy wasn't viable), cramped through that evening, when I m/c completely, and then cramped probably another 48 hours (but gradually less painful--more like a normal period for me). I would definitely take ibuprofen (and did--and wine.)

Definitely take something. My doctor told me that was 100% fine. Its hard enough emotionally, take whatever you can to be more physically comfortable. The process is painful enough! I'm so so sorry for your loss.

My miscarriage at 6 weeks pretty much completed within 36 hours of cramping starting. The intense part lasted maybe 4 hours. The one at seven weeks was one very painful day followed by a couple days of mild cramps followed by another painful day when it all came out. Neither required any drugs or procedures.

I would take the tylenol, and a heating pad or rice wrap warmed in the microwave helps too. I cramped off and on for over 2 weeks before taking misoprotol, but hopefully someone on here had one without the pills and can give you a better timeline.

So sorry for your loss. I wouldn't hesitate to take ibuprofen. It's safe while breastfeeding, and you deserve anything you need to minimize the physical pain of the miscarriage. Please take care of yourself. Many of us on here have been through losses, so please reach out with any questions or just to vent.

@Cole: First, I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't miscarry naturally but I don't see any harm in taking ibuprofen, especially since it's safe to take while breastfeeding. Take care of yourself.

I found out last week that my pregnancy isn't viable. I'm still nursing my toddler and after we nurse I am cramping. I'm hoping I miscarry naturally so I'm seeing this as a positive but it also hurts! Do you think it is OK to take ibuprofen? I want the cramps to be productive but I don't really want to feel them...

If you've been through this and have any guesses on a timeline once you started cramping I'd love to hear that too. Thanks.
