We're young, and we still have financial goals we want to meet, as well as some "bucket list" type stuff to do. But another issue is that my brother and sis-in-law are having a 10 yr vow renewal in Kauai, Hawaii NEXT Dec, which I would love to go to! DH was totally fine! Took a HPT tonight. Before we saw the results DH was amazing: "we have a house, awesome jobs, a fish, and a dog.. thats the most important part.. a dog!! i love you!" it was BEYOND adorable.</p> <p>the test was negative, which was actually a relief because RIGHT now is not a good time. DH is finishing his education 90 miles from my job, so we are apart during the week. He has another 1.5 years, although we have talked about splitting the difference and each of us having 50-60 minute commutes. While I am not ready to TTC, I am 32 and worried that I will run out of time. We've been married for about two years now and we thought we would want to start trying as soon as we bought a house -- which could happen any time now, as we're actively looking and making offers. Last year, we thought we'd have a house by November and we'd start trying in December and we had it all worked out in our heads. I am laughing at myself now, thinking I had it all figured out. Now, we're finding that it's much more difficult to find a house that we like in our price range and it seems nearly impossible that we'd have a house by November now. In any event, whatever house we buy will most likely need at least some light renovation, and we don't want to start TTC until we get that sorted out financially.</p> <p>I keep thinking that once we get that all figured out, I will feel "ready." Certainly we could be ready at any time if it just happened -- in fact, I have been off the pill for several months already because that was part of the plan we had decided on last year. But, the closer we get to making it all happen, the more I seriously question if we want to start right away or wait a while longer! We just feel like we've been saving all of our money for so long to buy a house, and it would be nice to have a year or two to be DINK (with a house) and travel, splurge a little on ourselves, etc. before adding a baby in the mix, because we know that will change everything. I know that sounds selfish, but I want to enjoy my time with my husband a little while longer before everything changes when we have kids. </p> <p>I am on HB all the time, though, so obviously it's something that we want eventually. Overall, when I see babies, I feel a strong urge to have one. But then I see toddlers and think, "nope, not ready yet!" We've been married for just over a year and would ideally like to wait 3-5 years to have kid(s). I would love to have a baby right now, but our finances are not exactly ideal. Between saving for delivery costs (I'm on a high deductible insurance plan and am currently looking into HSAs) and maternity leave (I don't get paid mat leave) and getting a second vehicle, it will for sure take several years!!</p> <p>I'm only 24, so time is still on my side. While we initially thought that we would start after about 2 years of marriage, we both found ourselves in the fortunate position of being able to finish graduate school after being married for about 2 years. We opted to focus on that and then consider trying for a baby.</p> <p>We just celebrated our 5th anniversary and feel like we waited the right amount of time for us, with our personal and work situations. I'm actually in the opposite situation than most of you. If it were up to my husband I would have gotten pregnant on our honeymoon, but as much as I have baby fever I'm the one who wants to wait (It's sooo hard). </p> <p>Originally our plan was to wait 4-5 years (we are both 23 and just got married in May). Right before the wedding we change the timeline to start TTC on our 2nd Anniversary and a couple of weeks ago we seriously talked about moving it up to next fall. </p> <p>We have lots of reason to wait: We both just started new jobs so I'd like to have spent a little more time working before going on mat leave, we are in a process of buying a house and hopefully I'll start my MS soon. Hopefully I'll also try to use the time to squeeze in one more International trip before baby!
