20 minutes of rolling around grumbling is nothing! I wouldn't change anything unless she was screaming and crying for an hour or something!

I always follow the sleep begets sleep, don't wake. There have been some toddler months where he really did need 13 hrs overnight, but still napped too, sometimes slightly later but almost always between 12 and 1 (we go to sleep at 8:30). And we've gone through some very painful bedtime stages, but it was difficult whether he was tired or not.

@JoJoGirl: lol I must be overtired then bc if I'm not asleep in under 60 seconds from when I roll over to sleep it generally beans insomnia and I'm up hours :)

@T.H.O.U.: all we have to do to wake her is quietly open her door. Just the ambient light from the hallway is enough. She is a super light sleeper!

I think you're doing the right thing. Wake by 8:15. Another option you could try is just opening the blinds, turning on a hall light etc, around 7:30 or so and see if the light naturally helps her wake.

That's pretty typical... falling asleep the second you put her down is more likely an indication of being over-tired. Taking 20 mins to fall asleep (like an adult :) ) is nothing to worry about.

I agree, don't worry about it. If she just needs a bit of time in her crib to wind down, and she's fine on her own and puts herself to sleep, I think you're doing fine.

This sounds like my LO. I don't know if it's the lighter evenings over the Summer or what but it seems to take her a while to fall asleep now. We have a similar schedule to you. I've wondered the same, whether I should wake her earlier or cut her nap shorter but she just seems content talking to herself at night before she falls asleep so I try not to stress.

We also have 1-2 days a week where she refuses to nap now, so I'm sure she's starting to phase it out.

I would not worry about it. As long as she is still falling asleep on her own, I would just let her roll around before bedtime. Maybe she just needs more time to decompress.

We've had a lot of sleep issues and I totally realize this is very minor. I'm really grateful LO is sleeping like such a rock star lately! I think that is why I'm trying to tweak to make it better... I'm worried this is the start of a backslide into suck lol.

Anyways! LO started sleeping really late in the morning. She used to wake about 7 and go down for a nap at 12:30. Then she started waking up later and later and fighting her nap, so I had to keep pushing her nap back. Currently we let her sleep until 8:15 before waking her (about 50/50 on her waking around 8 vs. being woken at 8:15). Then she goes down for a nap at 1:30 (earlier and she cries when I put her down). She sleeps until about 3 most days. Bedtime is 8pm.

Lately she's started having a harder time at bedtime. For the last few months it has been: I set her down, she rolls over, she is asleep before I even get the monitor turned on in my room. She's been staying awake in her crib longer and longer. Last night was about 20 min. She isn't crying but she's sort of whining a little and rolling around trying to sleep.

I don't know if this is maybe some sort of very minor sleep regression? (she's 15 mo)

Or maybe she just needs a longer awake time in the evening? Which would mean pushing her whole schedule back (like wake her at 7:30, down for nap at 1?
