I'm sure I'm being annoying about this, especially since I didn't start the thread... but the paci has just been such an issue lately and I don't have anyone else to share this with right now! LO DID go back to sleep on his own earlier after about 30 minutes, and although he fought his second nap pretty hard, he got himself to sleep and has been asleep for 2 hours! This is huge for us. He NEVER sleeps more than 1 hour and 15 minutes. Now I just wish I had done this earlier. So....</p> <p>@travellingbee: Thanks for starting this thread!! It took about 20 minutes for him to fall asleep. I had to pick him up to settle him down several times, but he eventually went to sleep..... but 30 minutes later he is up again! Ugh. He's not crying... just playing and cooing. He's even rubbing his face with his lovie like he is trying to go back to sleep.... I really hope he does! 30 minute naps are the pits! </p> <p>@travellingbee: I have been thinking about getting the A&amp;A loveys. We introduced one when we took away the swaddle at 5 months. I was terrified of them (SIDS), so I made my own out of a muslin blanket by cutting it into smaller squares. I know... overboard. But they look kinda "rough" and the A&amp;A are very cute. </p> <p>@hilsy85: I hope that if we get him off the paci now that we can still give it to him in emergency situations without recreating the habit! </p> <p>WAIT!! That's great! The first 2 nights we did no paci, he slept pretty well with only a couple of wakings. Then it got BAD! I gave in and gave him the paci because I can't deal with the crying-- especially since I am currently sick with a nasty cold. And last night he slept from 930-345 with no wakings. Well, DH said he woke once, fussed a minute and soothed himself by scratching the sheets. LOL Babies are weird. Hopefully we are getting over this waking thing!!</p> <p>On another note, we should be getting our A&amp;A lovey in the mail today. He still got up at his normal times to eat, 11 and 3, but other than that there were no extra wake-ups. It was glorious. He doesn't normally fall completely asleep while nursing, so at 11 when I didn't stick the paci immediately in his mouth after nursing he let out a few angry cries, but was asleep within a minute. At 3 he didn't even notice. He also only got up about a 1/2 hour earlier than normal without going back to sleep, but hopefully once he gets used to not having the paci he will extend that a little. </p> <p>@hilsy85: Did you take it away for naps at the same time? But it was usually only a couple times a night. Then she learned how to do it herself and only cried when she couldn't find it. I did it. I didn't give the paci to him tonight going to bed. He played for a while like he normally does, and then he started getting upset. I let him cry maybe 2 mins or so, went in, picked him up and calmed him, and put him back down. He gave 1 or 2 really big screams and then he just conked out. It was like magic. I just did CIO with checks (at 2 min, 5 min, 7 min, etc) for the time periods when I did not want to nurse...so for us I only wanted to nurse if he woke up at 2am or after. When he wakes up, I try to see if he will take that instead of me nursing him. We have to go in several times between 8-11 just for the paci, and then again between 5-7. So we cut it out cold turkey at 6.5 months and it was not bad at all. We still use it in the car, and he doesn't seem to be confused.
