She started standing on her own in December sometime. Really good around Christmas. First week of Jan she took her 1st step. Then the first week in February, one day she took 10 steps in a row and then was off!

DS has been standing on his own for about a couple weeks and started taking a few steps on his own this past week. Each day seems to accumulate a few more steps. After 10 steps, he'll squat or change to crawling mode. It took him a lil while to gain confidence to let go of cruising and just walk on his own, but he did it on his own so yay!

It took B about 2 months from first steps to being able to walk across the room (with lots of cajoling!). Even though he could walk, he was still too nervous to most of the time. Then after about 2 weeks he started walking all over the house and hasn't stopped since!

For us it all happened at once. DD was cruising for ages. Then one day around 14 months she let go of the side of a table, took her first few steps, and from then on she pretty much walked all the time.

@espion: I hope he walks soon so he can get into that daycare! I had no idea how long it would be between standing and walking. DS was wary of standing, so I thought we'd be waiting a lot longer than a week. BTW, this us my 1000th post - woohoo!

My LO didn't really go in that order. He took a few steps each day before he could stand well on his own. I mean he could stand but not indefinitely. And he couldn't stand himself up unless he was pulling up. He started taking steps in January at 10.5 months and a couple weeks later he started standing himself up in the middle of the floor. After that it was just a few days before he was able to start walking pretty well. By 12 months he was running.

@Katrocap: I know, everyone keeps telling me that walking can wait! But he might get into a certain daycare a little sooner if he walks. I guess he took his first steps two weeks ago (!), and just this week he's been standing on his own. I feel like he'll either run around 30 seconds from now or make us wait two more months!

My LO started standing on his own (like, in the middle of a room with no support) at 12 months. He could even drink out of a straw cup and play with a hockey stick while standing. He didn't actually walk (more than a few steps) until he was almost 15 months.

That's so exciting (and terrifying)! It took DS about a week between starting to stand on his own and walking. One night he just up and walked across the living room and hasn't looked back since.

E has walked, maybe, four steps a few times. And he can stand on his own really well. But we have to cajole him for those few steps. He's too chicken most of the time to let go of whatever he is holding on to! (He'd much rather crawl or hold our hands.)

How long did it take your LO to walk after they've been able to stand without support for long periods of time?
