We don't have one, but I think a Murphy bed is a fabulously practical solution to the guest room issue! Great idea!

Murphy beds: Secret obsession

When house hunting I saw a few in actual homes. They were so niiice. All of the homeowners were taking their *custom* Murphy beds with them. Guess they just couldn't let go.

@Anagram: Ooh, didn't think about that (the holes). Something to definitely keep in mind.

We don't have one, but my brother did in his old place. He lived in a small-ish 1 bedroom, but the living room desk was similar to the first picture. It was nice to visit and have a real bed to sleep on! I think that they are super functional, especially for a multi-purpose space!

I think they are super nice, but they can get expensive! Of course, that depends on the style you are going for, but the modern ones are always a few thousand dollars, and I don't think that includes the mattress.

From a practical standpoint, for the nicer wall beds, they almost always have to drill into the floor and wall to secure it. So one day when you resell, if people don't want a wall bed, they may find removing it (with the holes that are left in the hardwoods) a reason not to buy. But....then again...someone else my love it? It just depends.

I used to have one and it was amazing! i wasn't sold on it at first, but it is SO functional (mine was bookcases/drawers that opened up to a bed). it even had little cubby holes for an alarm clock. seriously, best space saving thing i've ever owned!

Our friends had one in their condo since the 2nd bedroom had to be guest room and office. It looked really nice. They put a nice mattress in so nice in fact they left it when renting it out. I think they for it on overstock. They make really nice ones these days.

Anyone have a wall/murphy bed in their home/apartment/condo/boat/wherever?! We've been exploring the idea of putting on in our 2nd bedroom so it can (one day) be a nursery but also have space as a guest room and be more comfortable than an Aerobed.

Tacky? If so, other options or recommendations?

Do you have one? Are they expensive? Where do I begin?

ETA:
Attached is the style we've been looking at (first photo). The bed opens with the desk in place and everything can remain on the desk too! I don't know how much more it is to add the shelves next to it though. I also like the 2nd photo and would put a small desk in front that can be moved when the bed is needed. DH isn't as sold on that idea though.
