I do remember that the 2 month mark was kinda tough being home. I think by 3 months when I went back she was much more "fun" and I wished I could have stayed home more with her.

I think if I were working primarily from home, I'd have gone back, no question. Having in home care is a bonus, you don't have to worry about waking a sleeping baby to go to day care, so, I don't see any downsides. I don't think it's a bonding issue, really. I see it more as an issue of being ABLE to sit for long periods of time, I couldn't have sat in a desk chair for a long period of time until well after 6 months PP.

With number 2, I didn't take a maternity leave. I was back at work in 3 days. Later I took some time off as the summer permitted. It all worked out fine and we are very bonded :)

I didn't go back until LO was 7 months, but I would have gone back earlier if I could have lined up my job sooner. My husband is staying home with LO until she's a year, which is important to me and made it easier.

I wanted to go back, for sure. It was still a little challenging, in ways I didn't expect. I do miss LO more than I thought I would, and now, even after just 2 weeks back, I feel "out of touch" with her. She's also adjusting in her own way. She's been used to me taking care of her, primarily, so I'm finding suddenly she's not wanting to go to bed at night. Lots of crying where there wasn't before. She's a lot more interested in sitting on my lap or beside me on the couch, where she wasn't interested before.

Even though my husband is home, he's still adjusting too. So, I'm finding I'm still doing the lion's share of housework, which really adds up and takes it's toll.

Overall, I'm happy with my choice. It suits my personality much more to be at work.

A few of my girlfriends went back early! They all said the same thing--they were READY to come back. They missed work and they missed having some semblance of their lives back. They came back at 6, 10, and 10 weeks.

I intended on taking 8 weeks since I had a csection. I went back at 6 weeks because I was going CRAZY at home. I am not cut out to stay at home with an infant. If you feel that it is in your best interest to go back to work, go ahead. Only you and your husband know what is best for your family. Plus if you work from home, it will be a much easier transition compared to your LO having to go to daycare.

I didn't go back early; but I was sooooo ready to go back to work after my 12 weeks of leave. If you wanted to "test the waters"; could you do a gradual return to work? Work from home a few days a week and see how that transition is? Then, if you want you could just return fully, and if you didn't want, you could do the gradual return through the remainder of your leave?

I think in your scenario it sounds like not much would really change. Except you'll be working but you'll still mainly be home and your mom will still be there. So I don't see why you can't "go back to work" so to speak.

Is your mom OK with taking over as primary caregiver this soon?

Hi all, question for you.

I've been on leave since July 1 (baby was born July 14, so I had 2 weeks off before she arrived). My current maternity leave plans don't have me returning to work until October 22-- almost 4 months off in all.

I've never been one with the "mom gene" (I mean, I love the kid, but I've never cried when she cries, I don't need to be around her 24/7, etc.), and being on maternity leave hasn't been enjoyable for me. I work from home 90% of the time, so when I do go back to work, I would mostly be in our spare bedroom/home office. My mom has been coming over every weekday since the hubs went back to work when LO was 4 weeks old to help with the baby, and she'll continue to come over when I go back to work.

So my question is, are there any moms out there who went back to work early? I'd like to hear how it went-- whether you were happy with your decision to end maternity leave sooner than planned, or if you regretted your decision. I've posted a status about it on FB, but all I got were comments from WOHM moms who didn't want to go back to work in the first place... so of course their experiences/opinions are different from someone in my position! Any input would be appreciated :)
