@mrsjenbug: it is honestly SO uncomfortable!! Ugh. I don't think I can handle pumping and nursing simultaneously. too much to manage!

@Alivoo01: yeah I'm hoping if I just pump for like 5 min when I"m feeling uncomfortable that will be ok an dnot make it worse!

@Ree723: I actually have never had a clogged duct so I don't know that that would be an issue for me!

@hilsy85: you are really full on that other side (I had to pump a little off just to make it more comfortable). The other option you have is to feed on one side and simultaneously pump on the other side which will keep your supply where it is and you'll have milk to freeze. I've done both...just a matter of what works for you. I will say that having too much milk can be so uncomfortable (I say this as my baby has decided a 4 hour nap is good and I am feel like I'm going to explode!).

I started taking lecithin granules from the day my milk came in with DD2 and it kept mastitis at bay. It doesn't affect milk supply at all, just thins the milk a bit to make it easier to flow through, so if oversupply is the issue, I'm not entirely sure it will help, but it will at least make it less likely to clog up....

Maybe pump just a bit to relieve the pain/engorgement, but not enough to really affect your supply?

@Foodnerd81: definitely not resting enough! That seems impossible with a toddler around tho... :(@mrsjenbug: I feel like block feeding would be so uncomfortable, I would be so painfully full on the side I don't nurse on, no?

I pumped to relieve engorgement because I was very concerned about mastitis with #2. I don't think it made the engorgement issue worse.

I agree with the advice to rest as much as possible. You'll have to do that if you get mastitis so better to start now.

@hilsy85: only pump to comfort, I struggled with oversupply with my first and it sounds like we are having similar issues (now with my second). Also, block feeding to try and down regulate your production. Oversupply isn't the blessing some people think it would be!

I really don't know about the pumping and oversupply, but are you getting enough rest? When I thought I might be getting it they said to really take it easy, rest as much as possible, basically just snuggle and nurse baby. Of course it's much easier to do that for your first baby.

DD is 6 days old, and just had a posterior tongue tie and lip tie clipped. I had serious engorgement days 3-5, but now the engorgement is mainly gone--I am just really really full most of the time. I think I am producing way more milk than DD is drinking (she is gaining weight, was just past her birth weight at 4 days old). As a result, and as a result of her poor latch, I think I am getting mastitis :( Any way to ward this off? I know that pumping will only exacerbate an oversupply, but I also feel like not pumping and having so much extra milk in my breast is asking for the mastitis to get worse...thoughts? I pumped today for 5 min after she ate and got 2.5oz total, and felt better after doing that...
