One way that acupuncturists tell if you "run cold" is my checking your basal body temperatures. There can be a wide range of where people fall.

@faithlove224: This is a common TCM philosophy. My acupuncturist used to focus on warming my abdomen, specifically my uterus during sessions up to and including my transfer for our successful IVF cycle.

This explains some of the theory behind this from a TCM perspective.

Also, for the record, I've gotten pregnant 4 times, one took two tries, the rest just one each. 2 were viable pregnancies. I have constantly cold feet. And the two miscarriages were in the hottest part of the year.

This sounds utterly ridiculous. Like @Torchwood: and others have said, we're talking about an internal organ. When you touch your stomach and it feels cold, you're feeling your skin, not the temperature of your internal organs. I'm calling "old wives tale" on this one.

I've never heard of this but it seems to be a common set of advice in Asian cultures? My friend who was pregnant at the same time is from Beijing and she was very concerned to see me drinking cold water. I'm usually pretty cold but got pregnant on the first try. I do keep my feet very warm though!

I think that theory is bogus. I've always had cold hands/feet and am more prone to being cold and have gotten pregnant. Where your uterus is, in your core, cannot be cold like an extremity would.

In Chinese medicine, when you are always cold like that, it is considered a sign of a "kidney yang deficiency." I was battling some infertility issues so I started doing acupuncture and was told to do everything in my power to keep my body warm (i.e. wear socks, used space heaters near my feet in my office, take foot baths, only drink beverages that were tepid or warm, etc.). Out of desperation, I agreed to try all of this in conjunction with a cleaner diet and weekly acupuncture treatments and I did get pregnant shortly thereafter. It's hard to pinpoint which change made the difference but I am 14 weeks pregnant now and things seems to be going ok so far (and I'm still sitting here at the office with my space heater blowing on my feet!).

I had an acupuncturist tell me to only drink warm drinks because I need to keep my uterus like a "warm little home". I *think* it may be specific to Asian cultures but I'm not sure. They adhere to that in postpartum as well ....no using air conditioners during postpartum, warm liquids, etc (according to a women in my prenatal group).

Interesting. I'm willing to try anything at this point, so I will try my best to keep my feet as warm as I can and I'm going to drink lots of tea to keep warm. I won't wear sandals to work, socks and shoes every day!

I would be childless if this were true b/c my hands and feet are always cold! But trying to get pregnant can make you feel a bit helpless, so as long as you're not banking on warm feet being the thing to get your pregnant, go for it--it can help you feel like you're doing something proactive!

It's an internal organ, in the warmest part of your body. I'm *seriously* skeptical that there would be any correlation, or even a difference in your uterine temperature the way there is in extremities. It's not like testicles that are outside the body. That being said, there's no harm in being warmer/eating warm foods?

I have Reynaud's so my hands and feet are always freezing but I got pregnant with #2 and #3 first opportunity so I kind of guess this is an old wives tale.
I did drink a lot of green tea when I got pregnant with all three so maybe that warmed my uterus. And I always wear socks and slippers too. Doesn't hurt to try anyway!

This reminds me of being in Hong Kong while pregnant and being told by older local ladies that I couldn't drink cold drinks or eat cold juicy fruits because is bad for the womb to be cold....I'm not sure I buy it. That said, it doesn't sound like there is any harm in trying - it might not help, but won't hurt you either.

If you're talking feet, however, there are pressure points on the feet/ankles that supposedly stimulate the reproductive system.

I never heard this correlation. Im usually on the cold side- feet, hands, nose. It took some time, but I was able to conceive. I got pregnant over the summer when we keep the A/C on full blast.

I've heard to only eat warm things in the two weeks after ovulation, wear socks, etc. and to not eat raw vegetables during that time. My acupuncturist has basically said the same thing, so I think that it is a very common rationale.

I guess I could see how having a major blood circulation problem could affect TTC, but this sounds like an old wives tale for sure. I'm *always* cold and got pregnant the first month we started trying.

Hey girls,

I have been reading and i found that a cold uterus could cause infertility, the uterus should be warm just like birds keep their nest warm we have to keep our uterus warm so that its a good enironment for implantation. A cold uterus does not have enough blood circulation therefore it makes it harder for implantation and pregnancy to occur. I always have cold hands and feet and even when i touch my stomach or uterus its cold to the touch, I dont like being cold but DH cant stand getting hot so we keep the house pretty cold. I have started to wear socks around the house and i read that it is good to soak your feet in hot water for 30 minutes everday bc it helps circulation to your reproductive organs. Has anyone heard this and do you know if it is true...I wonder if it actually makes a difference when trying to conceive hmmm. Also is it true that its good to eat warm foods during 2ww? Would appreciate your experience and opinions, Thank you.
