@Foodnerd81: The warm mist setting on ours only heats things to 104 degrees (cooler than many hot tubs I've been in) so it isn't a burn risk at all.

@Foodnerd81: I had read the same about being safer if out of the crib, plus I convinced myself cool mist should breed bacteria more slowly.

I do notice the air near the humidifier is cooler, but we don't have the humidifier right next to her crib either.

Cool mist, I think it's supposed to be safer.

Cool mist- because that's what all the internet gear lists said I needed! C's room is the coolest in the house but I don't think the cool must makes it feel particularly colder- just more humid. I was worried it would make it colder too.

I think cool is safer if they are out of a crib and could potentially touch it?

@Mamaof2: only if I have it turned up too high. If we keep it on a lower level we don't have an issue. But we live in the South and keep our house quite warm. If I lived in Minnesota and kept my house at a cooler temperature I might have a different opinion.

Cool mist is supposed to be better for congestion and we only use them when the kids are sick so that's what we have.

Our humidifier can actually do both. But we use the warm mist setting. I have heard that it is better plus since the mist is warmer the room doesn't start to feel cool from the cold moisture in the air.
