So, it gets really cold here in the winter and we probably ditch the super-warm clothes earlier than places farther south. But at that temp, kids would be in rainboots, spring jackets/fleece and "slush pants" (the ones I get have a thin fleece lining, but they are hard to find).

My girl will barely tolerate her warm coat and snow gear even when it's like 10 deg outside, so we've been compromising all winter already. We've mostly been able to get her into rainboots (as opposed to snow boots) and a Patagonia down sweater with mittens and no hat. Today was probably one of the first days that her outfit was actually appropriate for the weather (should be mid 40s to 50s today). I can't imagine making her go out in snow gear today!

I've been wondering the same thing (minus the school factor- it's school vacation week anyway). I have been thinking snow boots with dark pants that can get muddy plus thinner winter coat that's water resistant. But I'm worried her legs will get wet and cold so possibly snow pants still. We also still have lots of snow on the ground. What a weird weather week!!!

Once it gets warmer on a regular basis they'll do splash pants and rain boots. Right now I suspect they'll wear snow pants and snow boots because that's what everybody has.

@Mamaof2: I know :/ but if I don't send what they want they'll just put on the school extras anyway so...

I always send my kids in what I think is appropriate - If it was 60 I would do a fleece jacket (assuming the morning is chilly) - if they will be outside playing in muddy areas then I would send in rain boots.

Snow pants and a winter jacket in 60 degrees sounds crazy to me!

We do rain boots instead of snow boots and thinner rain paints with the normal winter coat instead of a ski pants/coat combo or snow suit.

It's going to be up to 60 degrees here today, which is super rare for where we live this time of year. It is wet out because it rained yesterday(no snow on ground) I texted LO's teachers about gear they preferred for today and they still want full winter gear (boots, coat, snow pants). I feel like LO is going to sweat, but I understand the muddy/wet factor. I'm curious what your school/daycare prefers for gear when the weather is warmer (55+).
