C was a horrible, screaming, colicky mess but it did end around 3-3.5 months. She just woke up one day and it was like someone had replaced her with a different baby.

I think 4-6 weeks was about the toughest! 8-12 was still a bit rough, but better. I could predict the fussiness by her "witching hours". Which is funny now, because I hadn't even thought about her "witching" hours in a couple of months at least, until this post! Hang in there! Idk when for you, but it will get better!

P.s. I used to take walks around outside during her witching hours and it would help a lot!

The peak was 6-7 weeks then it got a lot easier! It seemed like the evening was ALWAYS a crazy fussy time but by 8 weeks that was over with and longer stretches of sleep helped my sanity :)

I don't really remember super fussiness with him in the early days- I do remember me crying alot at 6 weeks. Just mostly breastfeeding frustrations, but I know all was right with the world by 8 weeks. He ate better and smiled a lot and was much more alert.

6 weeks was the worst -- diagnosed with dairy intolerance at 8 weeks and he got better and better and was much better by 3 months. A super happy baby by 4 months - happiest when we put him on special formula at 5 months :)

Yes, 6 weeks was sooo hard with both my kids, and then all of a sudden like magic by week 7 they started sleeping more, becoming more predictable, it was easier to read them, etc.

The worst for us were weeks six through nine. The witching hour generally lasted from 5 until 9 p.m. It really did kind of magically disappear by 10 weeks. She's 17 weeks now and is pretty content all evening, provided we get a catnap in around 5 p.m. Bedtime is 8.

@Foodnerd81: I haven't tried to in a few weeks; when we tried last my boobs were too big to get her in a comfy position.. Her mouth couldn't line up, so she would keep knocking off the shield. I should probably give it another try, my legs are killing me from having her on me all evening!

Probiotics helped us too. 3 months definitely marked the peak for us - but you had your little girl a bit early right? I think it's usually measured from the baby's expected due date, not actual birthdate. But I could be wrong. I promise in a few months this will all be a distant memory!!

@Bookish: can you side lying nurse? At least if she's just comfort nursing you can snooze too then. We do that in te mornings after she is mostly full (there's lots of leakin out of the side of her mouth when she's really eating).

It was the peak but the fussiness lasted til about 4 months.

We switched to Gerber good start gentle which is more broken down, with dr browns bottles. It really helped!

Our LO went through a fussy phase that stopped around six weeks when we put her on probiotics. We could tell she was in pain from gas and our midwife suggested probiotics instead of gas drops, and it was pretty much a miracle cure. The painful gas stopped and we were back to a happy baby. I swear by probiotics as it made a world of difference for us!

I really, really hope so. Or at least by 8 weeks!? LO has been so incredibly fussy this week and into the weekend. I comfort nursed her for two hours. Then I tried to take a nap, but she started screaming her bloody head off in ten minutes....so I'm sitting here nursing her again because it's all that helps....and trying really hard not to just cry my eyes out.

Solidarity, sister. I'm there with ya.

C is younger than E, but I'm finding it changes day to day. We have a few nights with minimal fussing, where she's drifts off to sleep easily, then nothing changes but suddenly she is cranky pants all night and requires lots of soothing and cluster feeding, to the point that when she falls asleep I feel like I just finished a sprint.

So I have no idea about six weeks, but just the general newborn fussiness ebbs and flows.

You're getting so close to the point where it gets easier! I posted a couple of desperate threads when DS was between 6 and 8 weeks old. Now at 12 weeks old, that seems like a distant memory! The fussiness has all but disappeared! I hope that someone can give you a break just to nap or go do something alone. That did me worlds of good! Sending you love!

Our fussiness finally ended at 3 months, but we have a refluxer and it wasn't diagnosed until 8 weeks and we had to make a med adjustment at 12 weeks which worked. We now have a very happy, not fussy at all 6 month old.

Obviously I don't have personal experience yet, but our nurse/lactation consultant said it typically peaks at 2-3 months and then tapers off from there...so you may have just a few more weeks to go. Hopefully not though!

Okay, so we have found something to alleviate our daughter's awful tummy troubles (it's a product called Colief which breaks down some of the lactose in her formula) and her screaming in pain night after night has calmed into regular newborn fussing and crying all evening.... which is a real improvement but is still exhausting!

I understand that this is what babies do and that all babies go through this to some degree or another. Ours starts at about 6.30pm - refusing to sleep, getting overtired and fussing - and goes through to 11pm (or at least it has followed this pattern the last three nights), with short bouts of full on screaming but mostly just crying and fussing.

I have heard that this behaviour peaks at 6 weeks then starts to tail off, heading towards 3 months. Was this true for your LO? LO is 4.5 weeks - I can cope if I have an end date in sight! Oh and how much worse is it going to get???

I am finding it really hard to deal with to be honest. I mean, it's much better than the pain-screaming but it does wear really thin. Last night I had a bit of a breakdown and cried harder than she did.... I really, really wish it would stop.
