So far its been soooo much easier! Breastfeeding was a nightmare the first time around. We had latch issues, reflux, thrush, vasospasms and a letdown that was too fast and caused him to really damage my nipples. This time I'm a week and a half in and, aside from the normal soreness at the beginning, breastfeeding has been a dream! I'm almost waiting for something to go majorly wrong because its been so simple.

MUCH easier. I also had a lot of difficulties first time - low supply, clogged ducts, cracked and bleeding nipples, etc. I'm 2.5 weeks in with #2 and it is going much smoother. Like @Cchoi4 I asked a lot of other moms who all said the same thing - easier the second time. Good advice about introducing bottle early, thanks! I also pump after feeding 1-3x a day and already have a decent freezer stash, think that has/will helped my supply too.

Golly I hope so! I think I will be more conditioned to the pain, less scared of the clogged ducts, and less hard on myself- understand that baby is learning not just me. I also won't let any nurse or lc get involved unless I ask them to!
I had so much anxiety about my clogs and don't anymore. They scared me at first and were excruciatingly painful. They still hurt but my gp said it was a good problem to have- clogs mean strong supply and my ob didn't bat an eye. I had her feel one at my checkup all concerned and she was just like "yep feels like a clog." I still get clogs constantly but now I just take a Tylenol!

Definitely much easier! The main difference was knowing what to expect and putting a lot less pressure on myself.

Yes - much easier! I think its because I knew what to expect this time around - we def had some issues here and there but way way easier than my 1st was

YES! I was sooooooo worried with my 2nd because with my 1st it was always a struggle. I had to pump every 2.5 hours to keep my low supply stable. It was stressful and I was on the verge of tears many days bc I felt like my body couldn't do what it should be doing. I was doing everything possible _ drinking tons of water, taking the herbal pills and supplements, eating oatmeal, lactation cookies, tinctures, etc. You name it, I did it. That plus constantly clogged ducts made the whole thing so stressful.

But with my 2nd, it was like he KNEW what he was doing. Haven't had any supply issues or any clogged ducts yet and its been 4 months. I had the same question to other moms and they also told me the 2nd was easier to bf.

One piece of advice though: even if bf is easier the 2nd time around, make sure to give your baby a bottle early enough (i.e. within 3-4 weeks of establishing a good bf-ing relationship). We waited too long and now my guy struggles to take a 2oz bottle which makes for him and i to be stuck at the hip most days.

@jedeve: good to know. I was wondering if they helped with supply or something along those lines. I have a whole unopened bottle of probiotics in the cabinet right now!

@jedeve: I too am stressing about this since I had a terrible time with my first, but went on to BF until 13 months. Baby2 is due in less than a month and breastfeeding is my biggest worry. My question from your list, what do probiotics do for breastfeeding?

@jedeve: congrats again! :) I think the second time around would be much easier! I was a total stress case in the beginning, the second time I will be more relaxed. I'm a pumping expert and I'll definitely use side lying WAY sooner!

Seeing as how I accidentally got pregnant while breastfeeding, I probably won't have too short of a window between the two. I had an awful time with my first - inverted nipples, used a nipple shield for five months, recurrent thrush, DMER, baby wouldn't latch, etc.

I'm hoping my nipples will stay everted (maybe a reason to continue breastfeeding while pregnant?)

This time, I know I will:

- Pump occasionally. I need a break.

- Take probiotics from the start.

- Live without a shirt on.

- Take advantage of side lying

- Know the difference between actual nursing and fell asleep nursing.
