His parents were very supportive and all 8 of his siblings have now got degrees and 2 have PhDs. He was raised with the expectation he would go to college, but his parents (MIL/ SFIL) did not help him financially. He did not take out loans. Earned scholarships and worked two jobs the entire time to come out debt-free. His parents were supportive and helped him some financially but I'm still amazed he was able to do it. He went to community college, then finished up in a university. I was immersed in university life while he just 'visited' campus for classes. We are both big proponents of having the expectation that our daughter goes to college even though we didn't grow up like that.
