We were literally picking up the movig truck when I found out my aunt had died. It really put me in a bad mood, and the last thing I wanted to do was move into our apartment and figure out how to divide household tasks. A few weeks later DHs grandma got sick and died in July, about a month before our wedding. It was such a whirlwind summer!</p> <p>We really got into the swing of things after our wedding, though. In fact, at the time we weren't actually a couple. We'd been really good friends for years when I bought a house close to where we worked. He started staying over instead of having a horrendous commute and I just wanted to be around him more and more, which I was so surprised at. I thought I'd get sick of seeing someone at work and living with them. I had moved back to MD for a job in DC and was living with my parents to save money. They had put their house on the market and it sold in 1 day! (this was during the housing boom) I had to make a decision and just decided to move in with my now husband, then just boyfriend, to save money. It wasn't a huge adjustment as we spent most of our time together anyways. </p> <p>We lived in sin for a looooong time before getting married. He just stayed over more and more until we decided it made sense, financially, for him to give notice on the room he was renting in a shared house. </p> <p>Two years after that - and a month before our wedding - we bought our first home together and the adjustment period then was really, really rough. In fact, I wouldn't say we have fully adjusted even now, two years on. Suddenly, we had to agree on decor and my DH has strong opinions on everything. Whereas previously we lived with my furniture, artwork, bed linen, suddenly DH had a say and his ideas are very different to mine. DH was reluctant to move in together because two girlfriends before me, they had lived together for some time. We moved into a 700 square foot one bedroom apartment with double bed. The space or lack thereof was tough. Otherwise, it wasn't a big deal. </p> <p>The condo we bought when we married is only the second place that we've lived together. DH grew up moving around a bit.
