Plus some things are even exponentially MORE fun with a little sidekick in tow. Seeing things from your kid's eyes makes so many things magical and so much more fun than they were in the past. Holidays, trips, a walk in the park, even the ice cream truck. Post-college, I mostly tried to organize my life to have children. Things didn't work out quite as planned, but I knew I wanted to be a mother, so "would be a fantastic dad" was my sole requirement when I was dating. </p> <p>Regarding loss of freedom: I think the previous posters have children under 2, right? Wait a year or so. It gets a LOT easier to go do things with an almost-preschooler! ;) We don't take LO to wine bars or the opera (just yet!), but we can do things like hiking, surfing, swimming, eating out, and even traveling <i>much</i> more easily than we could just six months ago. DH and I picked up a new joint hobby recently that requires us to take hour-long lessons, and LO comes along and watches (okay, sometimes he runs around and tries to copy us and our instructor, but he's well-behaved the whole time even if we're not watching him like a hawk). I wanted to be a mum-mum, you know, who churned out a child every other year, kept the house tidy and baked cookies and did craft projects and helped out at the school fete. I was top-of-the-class at virtually everything at school but never really became interested in any future careers because I honestly never wanted to be anything else..... but this isn't how my life has turned out. I have to be a working mum.... It's hard because generally when I want something I can work hard for it and make it happen but this is something I can't do myself.
