Way easier. I wish I would have done it sooner! She was totally trained by 26 months, and totally night trained by 27 months. Once I actually TRULY started potty training (it was summer), I just left her naked on the bottom half and it seriously only took really 2 full days before we could leave the house in underwear. I think she's had less than 3 accidents since August!

My DD2 is 16.5 months and already showing major readiness signs, so I am not going to wait until she is 2 to train. My goal is to have her 100% trained before the new baby comes at 22 months.

For those of you that had an easy time of it and did the 3 day method, did you introduce the potty in advance, and how much in advance?

LO is 18 months and showing a lot of signs of readiness, and like a typical first time mom, I am excited to introduce the potty and see what happens. I don't think she is really ready to do serious potty training though, just based on her age. I am wondering if "easing in" is even a good idea, though, or if it's better to not introduce the potty until you are "getting serious."

Easier, but way longer than we thought...but we didn't really try the 3 day method, at least, not in a 3 day period, but that same concept. We let him run around in big boy underwear (which we made a huge deal about) instead of bottomless (he hates not being fully clothed...), and asked if he needed to go every like 15 minutes or so (or just put him on if it'd been too long). And we cheered and danced and sang a special potty song whenever he went.

He's still not night-trained, though, or nap-trained, and they are still working with him at daycare. He doesn't tell them he needs to go...I assume he's too distracted by everything going on there to realize until after.

We're not pushing too hard, though. We've been very encouraging but wanted to go at his pace. We've made great progress (when he's home and awake he's exclusively in underwear with no accidents), but we still have some work to do, obviously.

@Adira: We sort of did a 3 day method with LO. We started at his daycare at 25 months old. To start, he would be taken to the potty every 30 minutes to go. Once he got more comfortable with it, we would extend it to an hour. Poop wasn't much harder than pee. We always ask him if he needs to poop. He poops at least once a day, usually at home. He hasn't pooped at preschool yet, but knows to poop at night or in the morning.

hm..... it's been way longer than i thought. she lead the way, but has had regressions and still has accidents and we're 5 months in. she's not against it at all and she doesn't want to wear diapers, but some days it just doesn't seem to click. she has gone to preschool 3 days. the first 2, she had no accidents at all. the 3rd, she peed her pants twice in a row, so they put a diaper and undies on her because she had no more pants to go through!

the thought of it was hard and once we let DD dictate when she wanted to potty train it was easy. She decided she did not want to wear diapers anymore and she wanted big girl underwear.

Easier, but it didn't happen right away like I thought it would (LO was right about 2.5). We didn't do the 3 day method and we used pull-ups for a while, then day weaned her from those and she wore them for nighttime for a bit longer. I would say it took about 2 months for her to be completely day/night trained. But, after that point we have had maybe 2 nighttime accidents in 3 months? So... not so bad, really.

Easier but longer. We loosely followed the 3-day method, and she was pretty well-trained by the end of the 3rd day. But we still had accidents once a week or so for about 3 months, which I wasn't expecting (probably just naive!), mostly on the way to the bathroom if she waited too long. Luckily never when we were out and about...always when playing at home and the bathroom was apparently too convenient!

@Adira: we also did a loose 3 day training method. I didn't always go bottomless at home though because it was still chilly around here. I also didn't hesitate to go on short errands the first couple of days. We had a few accidents, but by the third day, he was good about letting us know and we were conscious of his timing as well. #2 took a lil longer, maybe a week or so after that until he started being regular and wanting to go on the potty. We also made sure to have him try the toilet ring, his own potty, and public restrooms so he's pretty flexible about where he goes as well!

For DS it was super easy - I let him take the lead and he was in diapers until he asked for underwear - he had 1 accident the 1st day and that was that - I was shocked since everyone told me boys were hard to train.

For DD I tried to do the same as with DS but when she was approaching 3 I was getting nervous so I pushed a little and she had so many accidents - drove me bonkers!

I did luck out that both kids peed and pooped in the potty right away - we never had poop issues thank goodness!

i'm putting it off. LO is about 27 months. he's transitioning to the next room in daycare, and i'm hoping that once as they start getting more serious about potty training in there that we can follow up and it'll be easier on us.

@ValentineMommy: i know, i'm concerned about this also! all within a few months he's getting a new brother, new bed/furniture in his room, new room in daycare, then potty training? potty training is taking a back seat!

@Adira: We loosely followed the 3 day bottomless method. I let him drink lots of juice and flavored waters that he normally doesn't get to drink so that he would need to go, and then we really encouraged him to try every 15 min or so. He figured out pee the first day! As for poo, he knew what he was supposed to do, but it took another 2 weeks before he was comfortable pooing on the toilet. He would wait to poo until nap time or night time when he had a diaper on.

One trillion times harder. She is just not taking to it AT ALL so we're putting a pin it again. She'll be 3 at the end of June so we're definitely getting to an age where she should start getting it - I think she sort of does cognitively, but she is not displaying ANY of the physical readiness signs so I don't really see a point in pushing forward with it now if she can't physically get it. And I'm tired of cleaning poo out of the carpet and changing clothes 15 times per day because we never seem to get anything in the potty.

Yeah, potty training is by far the worst parenting task we have encountered to date!

I had fears of potty training, especially since I've always heard that it's harder and longer for boys to potty train!

I put it off as long as possible with DS' readiness and the pending arrival of DS2 this summer. Thankfully it was a LOT smoother and easier than what I expected it to be! (thank you DS!)
