We stopped as Grandma wasn't with the program. Being inconsistent has really been our downfall plus being paranoid about pissing off neighbors. He's now 9 mos and I think I need to start up again as he's still not weaned or sleeping through the night.

We transition from the pack and play in our room to the crib at 4 months with no issues. Then we decided to lay her down drowsy, but awake, and had no issues at all. She plays for a bit some nights, but we never have to pick her up for comfort or anything. We were expecting a battle, and didn't have one.

@Mrs. Bee: Glad last night went well!

Like @Lindsay05, we had a fairly easy transition. We started around 3.5 months, after we moved LO to her own bedroom. We expected the worst, but it just didn't happen. She will still fuss for a little while (maybe 5 minutes) when we put her down, but very, very rarely does she full on cry. If she does that, then I do go in to calm her down and it does the trick.

update: olive woke up at 11:45pm and 3:45am. I nursed her both times and she went right back down. That's a vast improvement from the 5+ wakings we were having.

We also CIO'd her nap today and she just half-heartedly cried for a couple minutes before going to sleep. She's been nap trained for 6 months, but we'd been rocking her the past week because she was sick. Hopefully now she's back on track because plopping her in the crib is so much easier and she sleeps much better too when she puts herself to sleep.

Phew I may have a little bit of my life back again soon.... (knock on wood)

We tried but couldn't do it more than once, after an hour he was throwing up and I was done. We did No Cry Sleep Solution which is working great for us. It is a looong investment, but worth it- no judgement on any method, sleep is precious!!

Hope it goes smooth for Miss Olive!

I just can't do it! My instinct is telling me when he cries, there's something wrong. He's really not a crier at all normally but he gets very stubborn that he wants to go to sleep with mama. When my mom babysat him he stayed up - from 3 pm to 11 - until I came back, and then he was out in 30 seconds.

Nursing him to sleep is the fastest because he'll cry and cry until we do it his way - it does take a while for him to really settle in. We might try a gradual sleep solution when he hits 11 months - I read that's a good time to try a new routine developmentally. I waited a long time to have a baby so I just enjoy the snuggling - the only hard part is if I'm super hungry because it's around dinnertime and he refuses to go down (usually because of teething).

@mrsaudi: I think it was about 4 days. We used Ferber after trying more gentle methods and that's what finally worked. The details are on my blog if you want the full run-down.

@Baby Boy Mom: how long did it take once you guys were fully committed? I am in this same situation. LO is 7 months, and a horrible sleeper, always has been. At 5.5 months we decided to sleep train but didn't commit fully, it was very hard on me, emotionally. Now, I think (I think) I am ready to try it again. Interested to see how you did it!

It was hard, but sleep deprivation was worse! After being woken up all night long for a month and a half and halfheartedly trying it a couple times, when we finally committed it was so worth it. The video monitor helped a lot!

Sleep training was more intense for DD.. we did CIO at 5 months, and even though it only took around 3 nights, it was so stressful. It was definitely easier mentally with DS since, like you way, we knew what to expect and what the end result would be (sleep!). But we waited a lot longer to train.. mainly since I nursed him longer and because he's the baby :-)

Honestly, LO was the best transition EVER. When we moved her from the bassinette to the crib we decided we were going to try and just let her cry it out. I had prepared myself for the worse crying sessions for both her and I. The first night we fed her till she was dopey, then put her in the crib and just left. We waited and waited for the screams. When we went to check on her she was asleep! It's been so awesome. We had some rough patches so i'm totally going to brag about that being easy for us. I hope it goes good for you!

@Mrs. Bee: I hope it's that easy for you!

We implemented an earlier bedtime tonight since no bedtime we've been trying worked. She went down at 6:30 after starting her bedtime routine at 6. She slept until like 7, then went back to sleep until 7:40 then fell back asleep until 8:15 all with about 10 minutes in between of awake time. I hope it's this easy to get her to go to bed earlier on a regular basis and that she stops all the waking up between 6:30 and the time she's been going to bed (which is 8:30-9, ugh).

olive only cried about 15 minutes and passed out!!!

i went in there once and sang twinkle little star to her after 5 minutes since that's our nap cue. she stopped crying while i was in there, and then started crying again when i left. she cried another 10 minutes or so then passed out!

oh please let it be this easy *fingers crossed*

I just read the no cry sleep solution today so I'm hoping it works. I tried letting her cry it out but it broke my heart plus she eventually throws up if she cries too long.

It was harder with Nicholas than with Skyler. I think b/c Nicholas was my first and everything's harder and more stressful with the first! With Skyler I gradually sleep trained him. Actually, unintentionally, while he was swing napping (let him cry here and there) so when it was time to move him into his crib he didn't cry for a long time. He does still cry for a few seconds to a few minutes (more whining) when I put him down for naps. Bed time was never a problem. I feel very lucky that my boys sleep well. Knock on wood that they continue to. Hope you all get some uninterrupted sleep soon! I can imagine how tired you must be. I can barely function on 6 hours with one wake time (by me) a day. It's mostly my fault b/c I sleep late.

I can't do it :( Our first guy just slept. This little one, isn't having it, and is unpredictable every night and CIO would make me flip I think.

We're looking into the no cry sleep solution..we shall see

I'm letting Olive cry a little bit before bedtime tonight because she has been waking up for the past 2 months since she's been sick. She's finally better and I'm exhausted from 5+ wake ups a night!

I actually don't feel that bad letting her cry. Since we sleep trained Charlie, I know the end result it worth it and maybe I"m more desensitized to crying after two kids! It was definitely hard when we did it with Charlie though.

I actually feel the worst about the grandmother who lives upstairs, and surely doesn't approve of sleep training! If it weren't for our upstairs neighbor and Charlie's room being right next to Olive's, I think I would have sleep trained long ago.

Was sleep training hard for you?
