@NovBaby1112: Yep! From the time we sleep trained until 8 months, she was getting up like clockwork at the times I mentioned above. From 8-10 months, she only woke up once at 4am. And at 10 months, she just stopped waking up and that's when she started sleeping 12-13 hours straight. Also, her bedtime was always around 6pm.

@Rubies: that makes sense....did she drop those 2 feeds on her own after awhile?

We sleep trained at 3.5 months to get her to have longer stretches of sleep, not necessarily to sleep 12 hours straight. After we sleep trained she was still waking up twice a night (once at midnight and once at 4am), but I was totally okay with it.

@hilsy85: i hear ya...i would kill for 7-8 hours of uniterrupted sleep! the first 5 days of sleep training i was pretty good at not letting her eat before 1am, but she slowly moved it up on me too, little stinker! now i'm just too lazy to do anything about it since she USUALLY only wakes once a night and goes down fine. i too thought she'd be sleeping 10-12 hours straight once we started and would soon give up the night feed on her own shortly after

@Kemma: yea, the developmental stuff is rough and it effects M's sleep really bad as well....sitting up, crawling, teething, etc....all in this age range. when she has an off night i always remind myself of these things. that's true about the calories thing- i didnt think of that really! M isnt too fond of solids either so she gets about 99% of her food from my BM

@scg00387: haha, maybe my expectations were too high? i am hoping by 9 months she will drop the feed on her own too, or at least move it to 5am or so, so i can get a long stretch of sleep!

My expectations were low I guess ha! LO has never been a great sleeper so I was just thrilled to have him be able to put himself to sleep without tears. We still do one night feed that can be anywhere from 1130 o 3 and I'm ok with that. I just told DH I'd sooner do a night feed until he was 2 than listen to him cry for 2 hours in the middle of the night! (As a worst case scenario from reading others sleep training threads). I am hoping hell drop the overnight feed on his own but if he hasn't by 9 months ill be considering gentle night weaning options to try.

We didn't sleep train but Miss A's sleep went completely haywire at around six months, it's only now started to improve again at around the eight month mark. FWIW I think the developmental stuff really upsets sleep at this age, A will have a night where she's feeding every two hours and then throw in a random eleven hour STTN the next night! They also start to burn way more calories once they get active too.

Yup. I had dreams of LO sleeping 12 hours straight. Well, that didn't happen because I kept one night feeding. But even on nights where I only nurse him once, he often wakes up once or twice more and cries/fusses for 2-5 minutes before putting himself back to sleep. I know he's just readjusting himself, but it wakes me up and means that even though he's only nursing once, my sleep is still really interrupted! I also have let his one night nursing session creep earlier and earlier, so now it's usually around 1230, instead of 230.

We sleep trained DD at 6.5 months by staying in the room until she fell asleep, and then once she was fine with that, we used a mix of Ferber and just letting her fuss it out til she fell asleep. I was hoping to have amazing results like many of the stories I have heard on here. Her sleep is much, much better than before (was waking up 3-5 times a night before we sleep trained), but it is still far from perfect. Some nights, like last night, she started this sad crying 5-10 minutes after she fell asleep so I went in and rocked her because I had no clue what was wrong. I am always so worried when she wakes crying like that she is either teething or has a tummy ache or something. Some nights she wakes at 12am to feed, others she wakes at 3am, its all so random. Most nights it's just 1 feed, but some nights its 2 feeds and I am too tired and lazy to let her CIO because I just think, its only 1 night and what if she is really hungry. I am not sure if the problem is my incosistency and lack of rigidness, or if it is just still normal for her to need 1-2 night feeds and the occassional rocking to sleep.

Did anyone else sleep train and not have these amazing results like you read about?
