we switched to 2 naps around months 7-8. it took a few weeks to get used to, but he was ready, and now i love our 2 nap days!! the middle stretch is 4 hours, so we can go out and do stuff, and the naps are a tad longer than when he was doing 3 :) yayyyy

we're on three naps consistently, but her awake times are stretching out considerably (usually 1.75-2 hours). i guess i'll just let her dictate her 2 naps, but all this info was helpful!

@BelugaBean: transitions are always a bear for like a week or so. Sometimes LO still needed the third nap but wouldn't take it in the crib, so we went for a lot of drives!

@Weagle: She usually wakes up around 7:30-8 so maybe she will start going down a little sooner soon. She's been sleeping 10:15-11:45 and then around 2:30/3-4:30/5. So she's still sleeping a decent amount which is great plus I can't wait until I catch on to what seems to be her new nap needs.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I'm so looking forward to one nap days! @BelugaBean: you may find she still goes down at 9 once her naps are more regular. LO still goes down for her first nap 1.5-2 hours after waking.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Hopefully we're permanently switching now at 7 months too! Honestly, I think the rocky part of it has been that I'm not sure if she still wants her third nap or if she needs to go down at 9 in the morning still so a lot of times I lay her down and she makes it known that she's not tired. I'm just worried it's a fluke and I won't lay her down and she'll be overtired by 10:15 but that seems to be when she's napped the past three days.

She's been having her doctor's appointments at 11:10am every time but if she continues this trend of naps for a few more days I might switch her 9 month appointment to an earlier or later time so it doesn't interfere with her nap.

LO dropped his first nap at 6 months. It was sort of gradual for us... he would only nap for 20 mins for his last nap and eventually he just stopped napping when I tried.

7 months is right around when we switched to two! It was rocky for a week or two, but after that it was awesome to have a more predictable schedule. It's even more awesome when there's only one!

Not really. She didn't drop her 3rd nap until 11 months. She used to take her 3rd nap on the ride home, but at 11 months, she didn't seem to need it anymore.

Yes, but it was primarily because I made the switch for him right around 8 months. He was only getting a third nap at home (not daycare) and the timing was crappy and he would wake up cranky. So now we don't do it UNLESS for some reason one of his first two naps is short (like 30 minutes). Also, sometimes, it happens by accident if we are in the car in the late afternoon (but it doesn't seem to impact bedtime).

Yes, in the sense that we went from no naps to two. Though never great at napping, LO stopped napping completely around 5 months. At 6 we had 2 nap bootcamp.

@Bao: I feel like LO sleeps a lot more than other babies her age. It seems like she's just now dropping the third nap at just under 7 months. I don't know how else it would happen, I'm just surprised that it seems to be a sudden change.

LO is 5.5 months and all the sudden about 3 weeks ago she started only taking 2 naps a day. I thought the 3rd nap dropped when they were much older, but I guess not in her case.

For the past couple of weeks, LO has had a morning nap around 9, a midday nap around noon, and an afternoon nap around 3 or so. All of a sudden, starting Monday, she decided that she wanted to stay up until about 10:15 in the morning and then she's awake from about 11:45 until around 2:30-3 and sleeps for a while. She's also pushed her bedtime back 30 minutes the past two days but there's no telling if she'll do that tonight.

Was the change in number of naps and also max awake time sudden like this for anyone else? Maybe she's just going through something but part of me hopes she's consolidating to two larger naps a day (it would make it easier to get things done in the middle of the day).

Edit: I should probably mention that LO is 7 months old on Monday.
