No, but my mom and brother both have birthdays a few days after Christmas and that sucks. Obviously, you make it work, but having a baby on a holiday would really bother me.

M is a Valentine's Day baby :) My due date was 2/7 and everyone said oh maybe she'll be a valentine baby ... I always just rolled my eyes at that (internally, of course) but it came true. That day was also Chinese New Year on the lunar calendar according to my mil.

@E11iebear - Definitely warn him!!! I didn't realize it was even a possibility until I WALKED to the bar (no drinking and driving for me!) and it was closed!!! Of course, it was a Sunday following New Year's Eve, so I guess that was a big part of it. Hopefully if your son's 21st doesn't fall on a Sunday, he might have better luck!

The biggest bummer for me, growing up, about my birthday being on the 1st, was that it was never my birthday in school! Lots of teachers do something special for you on your birthday in elementary school and everyone says happy birthday to you, but I never got that because we always had the day off! Bummer!

On the other hand, you ALWAYS have your birthday off! Score! Especially now that I'm an adult!

@Adira - yes, I meant birthday parties with his friends. of course, our family will celebrate his birthday on his actual birthday.

Oh...and I never thought about all the bars being closed on his birthday. I'll have to warn him when he's older.

My daughter was born two days before Thanksgiving, and this year, her 2nd birthday is ON Thanksgiving! It sucks because a lot of family goes out of town for the holiday (for her first birthday NONE of her Aunt/Uncles and cousins from my husband's side came), so it's kind of about people having to choose whether or not it's a baby party or Hawaii. I'd choose Hawaii, too. :(

If our baby comes a few days early, he could end up a Leap Year baby. How weird would that be?!

I don't have kids yet, but I'm a New Year's Day baby myself, so I know how much it can suck.

My parents always celebrated my birthday ON my birthday though - I'm not sure why you would chose not to do that. Or are you saying if you're inviting friends over? I had one birthday party with all the girls from my class (first grade), and that probably wasn't on the 1st, but a different day. Family birthday parties were still held on my actual birthday. My parents were also really good about not doing the combined Christmas/birthday presents. They always kept them separate so I wouldn't feel gipped.

The worst part about having a New Year birthday is now that I'm older. All my friends party on New Year's Eve and then never want to do anything on my birthday. AND when I turned 21 (a Sunday), all the bars were closed. Awesome.

My son was born in December. It's not the month I would have picked, but honestly, every month potentially has an "issue" with it. So, since he's born on the 16th, we will likely do a family party near the date until he's in school. Then we will do a kids/friends party around the same time.
I don't really believe in half birthdays, but I will likely keep some presents for later in the year.

My nephew has a New Years birthday, and people do the combo gift thing for him. My sister tries to give him a party day of though. It's not usually a lot of people, but she does try to make it special for him. My birthday falls on Mother's Day every few years, and people use to give us some grief at our birthday parties. They'd say it was horrible that she had to work hard on a day that should be about her. To be honest, that was lame of them and made it less fun for us. Mom was cool with it though.

I was born on Christmas Eve, and growing up, I never had birthday parties on my actual birthday. Plus, it was always a combo Christmas/birthday celebration. My son was born on New Year's Day...so I definitely know we won't be throwing birthday parties on his actual birthday. But I will definitely make effort to make his birthday parties special.

Is your child born on a holiday? If so, how are you going to separate the holiday celebration and the birthday celebration?
