The ultrasound tech said she'd be over 9 pounds and she was only 7lb 13 oz. I was 9.5 lbs when I was born, but her dad was only 5 lbs even though he was full term, so she came in the middle!

I'm pretty scared of this whole thing. I know several women who were induced because the doctors thought their babies were getting too big and they ended up having small or average sized babies. I was huge when I was born - 9lbs 12oz - so I'm expecting a big baby, but hoping my husband's genes kick in and we get an average sized one.

I had an ultrasound (to make sure DS was head down) at 36 weeks where they estimated DS was around 7 lbs. At 39 weeks they did another ultrasound to measure amniotic fluid and estimated that he was just under 10 lbs. I gave birth at 41 weeks 3 days and DS was 10 lbs 9 oz.

They were right on with the ultrasounds. They told me the same thing about +/- 1 pound either way. DH was over 10 pounds when he was born and DS measured big consistently throughout the pregnancy.

I was very clear from the beginning, because of the ultrasound being so unreliable to predict size, that I planned to at least attempt natural childbirth. I was not going to schedule a C-Section just because they thought I was going to have a big baby. I'm tall and have a larger frame, so there wasn't any legitimate reason to think DS would be too big to deliver naturally. He was head down and facing the right way, so they didn't even bring up a planned C-Section.

Everyone thought LM was going to be huge because my belly was pretty big! I was expecting an 8 lb baby... since I was 8 lbs, but my OB estimated 5-6 lbs. and LM was 6 lbs. 6 oz. when she was born. Pretty close.

I was high risk so I had all kinds of crazy measurements every 2-4 weeks to determine her size. The da before my c-sec, they estimated her at 7lbs 11oz. She was born at 7lbs 10oz, so they were right on

My LO was bigger. He came 2 weeks early, was 8lbs 12oz and almost 23 inches long! When my doctor found out how huge he was, she was shocked. It also made me feel better about the couple of times she told me to watch my weight gain, it really was all baby, haha.

Waaay smaller, thank goodness!!

They were estimating him to be over 9lbs at his due date at ultrasounds at 30 weeks and 34 weeks- this had me hyperventilating since I am not very big.

He ended up being 6lbs 11oz when born at 39 weeks. He is very long though, so that threw off their estimates.

DD was right where our Dr. said she would be towards the end of my pregnancy. While I was pushing he kept saying "Oh she is smaller than I thought, 6.5 lbs max" to make me feel better I think lol she was 7 lbs 10oz

DS was bigger. My midwife estimated him to be no bigger than 6 lbs something and very long, but he was born at 7lbs 7oz, but very long. He was also 9 days late so I think if I delivered on time he would have been in the 6-7 lb range.

ETA: the estimate I was given was only after I asked how big she thought he would be and it was by feel, not off an ultrasound.

Just curious... are the estimates that you're talking about done by a full ultrasound, or just by the doctor feeling the baby? At my last ultrasound at 32 weeks they measured my baby at 4.5 lbs. It makes me think she's going to be a big baby by 40 weeks, but we'll see!

They told me that they couldn't give me an exact because the ultrasound can be off a pound each way. But they did say she would be bigger than most, but small enough that I didn't need a c-section. They were right, she was 8 lbs 13 oz.

I was one of those people...my doc estimated the baby was over 8 lbs at 38 weeks so I was induced at 39 weeks and ended up in a c-section. Then the baby ended up being only 7 lbs 14 ounces. It's a bit annoying bc I wonder if I could have delivered naturally if I'd waited, but we're both healthy so there's no point in stressing over it I guess.

Most of my friends had babies smaller (up to a pound) than what their doctors estimated. So when the ultrasound tech told me Charlie was going to be over 8 pounds, I didn't believe it and thought he would be closer to 7. Of course they were right and he was 8lbs 6 oz.

Was your LO bigger or smaller than your doctor estimated at your last ultrasound before giving birth?
