No. We had different issues both times

The first time I had mastitis, needed to use a nipple shield, and my DD1 often had nursing strikes. She would fuss and scream at the breast but never latch. Looking back, I am sure I could have used the knowledge I have now to properly address the striking, but at the time I had no idea why she was doing it. I would cry and cry and convince myself that she was starving. It was so stressful! I also had an oversupply and was able to successfully make a freezer stash.

With DD2 it was a whole new ball game. I had a better idea of what I was doing and was able to confidently nurse her with no nipple shield. But she had colic and food intolerances (gluten, dairy, soy) and had blood in her stool and just cried constantly, so nursing was definitely a struggle. I wasn't able to pump much and was never able to pump more than 2 oz at a time or make a freezer stash.

LO1 - difficult/painful the first few days. I pumped round the clock and mostly bottle fed every 2 hours. At week 2 I had a lactation consultant come to my home to help me figure out how to get DD to latch better. It got easier and BF til DD self weaned at 12 months.

LO 2 - so easy! milk came in faster, quick to latch. pain free. BF til 14 months.

I've been fortunate to have had great experiences with both. DD1 weaned at 19 months b/c I was pregnant with DD2. DD2 is 8 months and still going strong!

Completely opposite. With my first I was in pain until 3-4 months for unknown reasons, but went onto breastfeed until 13.5 months. With this one I haven't had any pain and it's been easy since day 1

Hugely different. Was never able to BF E, so I pumped for a few months, then switched to formula (she spent a week in the NICU).

With T, it's been largely unproblematic aside from a TT we had clipped and a round of thrush before he was a month old. I had some pain and latch pain but it's largely dissipated at 8 weeks PP. At this point, I'm pleasantly surprised at how easy it is

I've been fortunate to have had great BF experiences with both. DS self weaned at 16.5 mos and DD is almost 9 mos and still BF is still going strong.

Both had trouble gaining weight. Lo 1 i gave up after 2 weeks due to poor weight gain and being uneducated abput bfing. Lo 2 is nursing strong at 10.5 months after struggling with
Weight gain concerns for 7 months.
My second experience was harder but i was way more successful then with my first.

Complete opposite :)

DD1: would never latch so I exclusively pumped for 10 weeks and then switched to formula due to weight issues.

DD2: great latch from the start, but HATES the bottle and only wants to breastfeed. This is so strange to me since I never breastfeed DD1. It's really stressful I want her to start taking a bottle!

I'm curious about this too. Aside from my own insecurities about it, BFing my first was pretty much perfect. I really hope it goes as well with this second one.

BFing my first was awful for a good 3-4 months. This time has been awesome. It's made a huge difference in the early days.

We had a lil issue getting a good latch the first week and DS was on formula for a few days until my milk came in, but after we weaned off the nipple shield we had a pretty seamless BF journey and made it past my initial and long term goals.

I'm hoping to have the same experience with DS2, but I've stocked up on nb formula, as well as powder, etc. since I know each time can be a different experience.

How was it for you?
