Mine was worse then I expected it to be unfortunately. I stayed from Wednesday to Monday (lo was born Thursday night) while in L&d it was awesome but after lo being born/showering etc I got taken to a ward which I had to share with 2 other women. D wasn't allowed to stay, the food was bad (there was one dish in particular that neither dh or I wanted to touch) I only had my vitals taken the first day, I had to ask for pain relief, and I had to keep reminding the nurses I needed my needle leur flushed. When I have another lo I'll give birth in the hospital (I have to for medical reasons) but I'll transfer to a birth center for my aftercare if the birth goes well.

I had a great stay. There was a seating area in the room that converted to a bed for family who wanted to stay. The food was delicious. It was also a teaching hospital and I did get some interesting questions like "does that hurt" from a male resident after a contraction. He took notes when I said yes. My DH asked if he wanted to she his damaged hand as proof.

The two downsides were the not being able to sleep because we were woken up every hour for vitals and every hour to feed and the two never came at the same time. I also had an idiot nurse who gave me a lecture everytime she saw me. My daughter was readmitted for jaundice and was born on the boarder line of premature so she had a hard time latching. I had so many nurses try to get her to latch and we ended up needing to use a tube to teach her to suck. This nurse loved to inform me if I did my job as a parent my daughter wouldn't have been readmitted to the hospital. She almost got my foot in a place where the sun doesn't shine, but I was too tired to hurt her properly.

No complaints! It was what I expected, if not better. I was really pleased with how wonderful the postpartum nurses were. They were such a help with swaddling, nursing, answering all of my first time mom questions.

It was awesome. We were there for 4 days due to complications. Good food, limited checks, my nurses were great, and C's nurses were even better. The night shift baby nurse taught us how to swaddle, etc. and the day nurse hopped up in my bed to help me get him latched. They respected my wishes to have no visitors, and I was actually pretty sad to go home :silly:

I have really fond memories, really loved my time in the hospital. The doctors, nurses, staff, LCs, and everyone else were so nice, and I felt so safe and protected with people monitoring me and LO all the time. The food wasn't that great, &I wish guests had more comfy sleep options, but otherwise loved it!

ETA: I checked in wed morning, had LO thurs morning, (med free, no complications), checked out Saturday morning.

My L&D and pp rooms were both awesome. They were good sizzles with huge bathrooms with soaker tubs (although I couldn't take baths in the pp room due to my c section, I did use the bath during labor for a while). The bed was big enough that DH could sleep in it with me. We had a couch for visitors and a nice reclining glider for nursing. All of my nurses were good...we did have lots of people in and out because it is a university hospital, but I was kinda expecting that. They only came in at night to give me pain meds to limit the amount of times they woke us. The food was good...I usually ordered enough for DH to eat too, but my mom usually brought us dinner when she came to visit. I really enjoyed my hospital stay...I'm actually sad we won't deliver our next child there because we will be moving sometime next year. But if I have the choice I think I will choose a university hospital again.

My stay was great, for the most part. There were two nurses who didn't seem to appreciate my choice of med free labor but apart from that the room was super comfy. DH had a sofa bed to sleep on. I was allowed to have anyone I wanted in my labor room (before things got serious it was a party in there!) and the food was OK. I got lots of help the following morning with breastfeeding and bathing LO and carseat checks. I'd say the stay was 8/10.

Because I was hoping for a med-free birth, I was expecting to be discharged within 4 hours of having LO. I had an epidural, but was home within 12 hours of LO being born. Though my stay was short, I was pleasantly surprised- everyone was wonderful! The only downside was, though I was the only person in a double room, DH wasn't allowed to sleep in the other bed, in case someone needed it. So we shared a single hospital bed (but again...only slept for like 3 hours).

L&D was great, but I ended up with a c/s which meant I had to recover in the high risk ward. It was so small, DH couldn't stay overnight, I had to share a room, so many checks (if not checking on me, then they were checking on roommate). Awful. I begged and got released after 36 hours instead of 48.

I wasn't sure what to expect, so I didn't have any expectations. I had a general idea of the room from my hospital tour, though.

PROS
- we had a private room
- place for DH to sleep with extra blankets and pillows
- the food was great and the portions were huge. My meal could feed both of us. They had an entire menu, like at a restaurant.
- it was quiet. I never heard another baby cry!

CONS
- the shower was really small & I felt like a whale after my csection
- there was one nurse I didn't like at all
- I didn't expect so many people to be in and out of my room. Vitals, cleaning, check on baby, ped, OB, nurses in and out..

Mine was pretty great. They had a sign you could put on the door for quiet hours when no one would disturb you and we never even needed it. My nurses were great, drs were nice, I really had no complaints. Even the food was fine and both Dh and I could order as much as we wanted. We were in no rush to go home! I will absolutely go back to the same hospital when we have another one.

I loved my stay! I had a scheduled c-section, so I kinda knew what to expect. My postpartum nurses were amazing! Of course, they came and checked on me allll night long, but the baby didn't sleep much those 2 nights, so I was awake anyway. The LCs that came to help us with latch issues were also awesome! The food was actually pretty good, too. I ordered pancakes both mornings (I knew that's what I wanted the morning after I'd had him because I had GD and I wanted some pancakes Sooo bad!).

I had an excellent experience both times. Everyone had fabulous customer service. Good food, I think vital checks were every 3-4 hours or so. Nurses always made sure my pitcher was full of water. Food wasn't bad at all. Nice room both times. I know a hospital isn't a hotel, and I'd never expect it to be, but my stays were so good! The LC brought me 4 extra pillows to make it easier to nurse. Everyone really went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable!

Nope, it was WAY better! All my nurses were absolutely fantastic, my rooms were great. My nurse came to check on me often enough without being annoying or neglectful. the food was halfway decent. They let you order off a menu and the portions were enough that DH and I could share. Although to be fair after the first meal my mom brought me every meal.

My only complaint was the LC on staff. I'm considering refusing refusing to see her if she's working when I deliver.

I feel sad for people who have horrible hospital experiences! It have to that way.

The nurses limited checks to twice a day because I made it absolutely clear I did not want to be messed with. They were shocked that I was dressed and showered the morning I had E (he was born just after midnight). Other than a bad experience with a nurse manager trying to give me a spiel about how they "want to make sure we have a great experience" at the exact moment I was having a mini-breakdown about breastfeeding/jaundice/bili levels/and the inability to hold my son because he was getting light therapy, it was okay.

(I listened to her for about 7 minutes before I told her to get the heck out of my room.)

Somehow I think the theme is generally...L&D was great, the postpartum unit was lousy. At least that's what it was for me.

We were treated as VIPs because my MIL is friends with a higher up in the hospital. That meant that DH got meals for free (only I got meals for "free" otherwise). I was in a teaching hospital too but they limited the checks and visits in the mother/baby unit. I did have a lot of visits while laboring. I loved my labor and delivery room but my post partum room was much smaller.

It was soo bad. The doctors were both rude, the nurses were way overworked and had no time for us, the air conditioning was broken, the food was unbelievably bad, and everytime we went to the left side of the room an alarm would go off spectacularly loudly.

Just curious to hear other peoples' opinions on whether their hospital stay after having LO was what they expected, better/worse/etc?

I was really surprised by my stay over all. I had planned for a natural childbirth and was hoping to be discharged 24 hrs after having LO. I ended up with a c-section at 4:33am the day after I was admitted, and hospital policy is I have to stay at least 3 nights after birth, so I ended up there for 4 nights total (the first in labor then 3 more). I was SO bummed to have to stay but it honestly was not as bad as I thought it would be.

Better:
- DH was more comfy than I expected. We were given a bigger room (I think bc we were staying longer) and it had a pull out love seat so he was actually pretty okay sleeping there-- when we could.
- I wasn't bored. I was so worried we'd just be climbing the walls but honestly there was so many doctors and checks that the time sort of flew by.
- I loved having 3.5 days there with an LC on call from 8-4. I had her up at least once/day and it was great.
- LO ended up with jaundice on day 2 and I appreciated being there to monitor her.

Worse:
- The food was so bad. I'd heard from some people it was good so I had hopes... but no. Absolutely dreadful. We just ordered in the whole week after my first 2 meals.
- Teaching hospital = SO MANY DOCTORS. I guess it was nice to be so well looked after, but we generally had at least 6 different doctors/residents coming in to check out me and baby every day... it was a lot.
- Inability to sleep. They keep telling you to sleep, but then they wake you up every hour or two for vitals checks, tests, and doctors. I never slept more than ONE hour at a time the whole time I was in the hospital.

So... over all it was not super fun, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, being in the hospital for a week. What did everyone else think?
