They just had him sit in front of me (he wanted to stand but they made him sit, in case he fainted) and he didn't see anything. He was also present for my second delivery's epidural-turned-spinal. Because you need to hold really still the hospital I delivered at makes everyone leave who isn't medically necessary because they don't want someone to pass out and cause you to jump/be distracted. If its an in-room vaginal birth, theyll likely be more lenient. In the OR where I had my section, my doctor (holding me for support) was standing in the "blue zone" (sterile area) of the OR, and so nobody that hadnt scrubbed in was allowed there. Thats why DH wasnt allowed in for mine, not because of the worry of fainting. It took them 4 or 5 tries to get it in because as soon as it went in I would jerk and he would have to start over.
