It's definitely more common to misread as a girl than to misread as a boy--I have a co-worker who this happened to and it almost scared me into team green. We had 3 ultrasounds after the anatomy scan, so they had plenty of chances to correct an error, but she was a girl all along. </p> <p>The first thing my OB said after DD was born: "Were we right? Is it a girl" and one of the nurses nodded. She assured me that it's not just the absence of extra appendages; there is actual girl-anatomy ("three lines") that they see on the scan...and then she showed us the girl parts up close. So I think while a girl result from an ultrasound may in the past have been simply absence of boy-parts, now they do have positive identification of girliness!
