@daniellemybelle: don't know where my post went, but I'm nervous about IG because I've had my girls' pictures stolen... But if I could just see pictures, I'd be fine with that...

@Mrs. Jacks: Oh, I just meant that @avivoca & I are on Instagram and you can see pictures of us and our curly girls on there! :) But I will email you some pictures of me through the years if you promise to destroy the evidence! Haha!

@avivoca: your profile picture is small, so I can't really tell... Not that it matters except that I'm always looking for multiracial role models for M. I think for an adopted kid with multiple racial identities, it ends up being important...

@Mrs. Jacks: It hasn't come up much. They definitely know she is T's kid because they look exactly alike, but she's darker like me. Most people think I am Hispanic or Native American.

@avivoca: she's cute! I bet people have a hard time identifying her heritage? With M, most people think she's Pac Islander or Latina. Black folks know she's black, but everyone else misidentifies her.
@daniellemybelle: when her hair is wet it gets a kinky zig zag pattern so I'm assuming you are right. I was hoping for beautiful 2c or 3a, but she's gorgeous no matter what :). (And now of course I want to see your hair as a teen and now ;) )

Right now I keep her in blunt cuts with heavy bangs to weight down all the fly aways.

@Mrs. Jacks: I think it is very possible your LO will have curly hair when she is older. My hair was basically straight until I hit puberty. It is now wavy/curly - though I have lost some curl since having LO. It was 2c from like 13-25.

@Mrs. Jacks: She has fine hair that has big curls unless it's humid, and then it's tighter. It's very similar in texture to mine so I think it will be similar to mine soon. You can kind of see it curling up in this picture. The top is kind of straight right now.

@avivoca: what is your daughter's hair type? I expected my daughter to have loose curly hair, but instead it is straight but the hairs are somewhat flattened. Makes for a lot of frizz and fly always if we don't hydrate diligently,

My daughter is 1/2 AA. She has very curly hair and it needs lots of moisture, especially to protect against breakage now that I pull it up most days. We wash her hair once per week - sometimes more like once every 10 days. Basically when it starts to smell and has stuff in it. :) We are still using no tears baby shampoo (Aveeno). Then I use Shea Moisture conditioner but we leave it all in. I layer coconut oil and Shea Moisture curl cream over that. Her hair drinks it all up!

She hates getting her hair wet but if I ever need to, I work in a small amount of conditioner, and again, I leave it in. I would think you could either just not wet her hair at every bath, or if you need to, use conditioner and rinse it out, or leave it in like we do if her hair needs a lot of moisture.

I only wash H's hair once a week usually unless she gets food caked in it. She is 1/4 AA and if I need to rinse her hair, I just use conditioner instead of a full wash.

@Mrs. Jacks: Good point. I could just make sure I wash her face and the exposed skin areas. Being neutropenic and the amount of hospitalizations she has had this year alone makes me a little paranoid and over thinking thing often

I'll try getting some more moisturizing shampoos and conditioner/leave in and washing less often and see how her hair does! Thanks ladies!

@anbanan15: can you just skip getting her hair wet altogether? With the neutropenia cancer kids, they don't necessarily get their hair washed every day...

@Mrs. Jacks: Do you think it would be okay to just rinse with her being neutropenic? That's my biggest hang-up with not washing daily. I'll have to get her a good conditioner!

Our second daughter has tricky hair (AA/NA/Asian). We've had our best luck with shampooing every third day with a moisturizing shampoo, followed by conditioner. After towel drying, I use a light protective leave in conditioner (Keratasse Elixer Ultime).

She needs lots of moisture, but anything to heavy weighs down her hair and makes it look greasy.

@regberadaisy: what do you use when you wash it? Oh and the levels drive me nuts! DS had beautiful long ringlets at this age. She still looks like she has NB hair! I cannot do a thing with it because it is too short except for the mullet in the back.

DD has atypical very fine thin Asian hair. Unless there's food or sweating I wash every other night. Now that her hair is long enough I put it in a loose bun. Before I would just bathe around it

I totally know what you mean about the multi levels! LOL

We don't wash DD's hair at all unless its got food caked in it (less than one a month). She's half Greek half all sorts of Caucasian with thick silky waves if that helps. Most bath times it stays dry except for the stuff around the edges. I'd say leave her hair!

My kiddos are part Japanese and I'm beginning to wonder if my DD has more of a biracial hair type compared to her brother and what would be the best way to care for it? Any shampoo/conditioner/routine suggestions?

Her hair barely grows and what she does have is pretty sparse, thin and fine. It is so many different layers, never really grows on top or on the sides, but there is a small amount of length in the back. The back also has some curls. I can comb it out nice and within minutes it looks and feels dry and like a rats nest (but when first combed it out it doesn't look or feel dry), sticking out in all different directions and knotty as anything. I was doing some reading that Asian hair types shouldn't be washed as often as Caucasian hair types, but I need to bathe her daily for medical reasons and to reduce her risk for infections, so would I just rinse her hair? When I just rinse without washing my hair I always feel like it is gross and more knotty when it dries and I am concerned just rinsing wouldn't get her clean. Hope this makes sense and is in the right board.
